As we do alot of work with companies supplying company cars to employees, the question of Fuel Benefit comes up alot.
Often it is perceived as preferable for a company to supply the employee with a fully expenced car (i.e. all personal mileage paid for by the company too).... Read more
Hi. I recently purchased a Cat D stolen/recovered T5 campervan from a private seller on eBay. When I took it to a reputable garage to get a quote for the cosmetic damage to be repaired they informed me that it has in fact been in some sort of accident and the damage is far more extensive than on first inspection and discovered that the chassis has been bent. I am currently in negotiation with the seller (who buys and sells insurance write offs through auction) to return the vehicle to him and get a full refund. My concern is that he will not refund me the money and I am left with an unroadworthy van. Could someone give me some advice please on how/if I can get my money back? Thanks v much Read more
To start with, go to his ebay page, and have a look at his feedback - NOT because he has lots of poor feedback, but because he sells lots of damaged cars, and the feedback proves that. BMW530d, Citroen Relay, Astravan, Transit, Navara, Corsavan, Merc ML ... they're all there - and that shows he is not a private seller, but a trader.
Next, print the screenshots of his feedback as proof .. just in case he tries deleting or making it private....
I am researching smart tvs before buying. My needs are 90% met by the Samsung UE43KU6400.
Customer reviews are good, but there are moans and groans that the unit does not carry the BBC Iplayer App, in spite of product information and sales talk saying it IS available. ... Read more

I have a tiguan 2tdi bluemotion and just had a economy remap fuel consumption is better than it was pre fix power is better ,but the regeneration cycle is the same every 150miles 300miles before the vw update , my worry is that its still producing twice as much soot as before the update so egr and dpf won't last very long.
Hello. I went into a Hyundai garage and asked if they had a particular car. They said they had one in bath but I would need to make a small commitment for them to get the car to where I live. They asked for five hundred pounds. I said I had not even test driven one of these cars and that if I paid a deposit this would not mean I was obliged to buy it. He said no it would be subject to test drive and that they were not that bad. I asked if I should test drive one they had here and he said no we can get this one in. I then said I would want finance and so he did all the credit chequers to see if I was eligible and I was. I signed some paperwork but again said if I sign all this that dos not mean I was definately getting this car. He said not. I then went in to test drive liked the car but it smelt of dog and had a couple of debts and scratched in it. He said he would sort all of that. I said I wasn't sure if I wanted a diesel or petrol as I had been advised that a petrol would suit my needs better. At this point the manager changed his tune and said he had bought the car off of notability especially for me and said that he could not send it back and that he would not be getting me a petrol in to try. This was said in a dishonest way. I told him that I had not been told that he was buying the car nor that I was obliged to buy it. I said I would come back in the next day. We spoke again and my dad said we had to look at another car as we had seen one cheaper with less mileage. He said he would not lose money on this car and said he had bought it from notability and said it was non returnable and said he could not give back my five hundred pounds. I told him this is not what Chris said and that although I liked the car this was not a done deal. Am I tied in and will I lose my five hundred pounds if I pull out? Read more
I agree with everything brum has said. This is disreputable car dealing and you had not committed to buying it.
Recently I laid a deposit of £500 with an MB dealer. I was unable to proceed and deposit was returned on the day asked for with no quibble. You have been very unfortunate : best wishes for sorting it out, stay resolute.

Met the A2car club at Kimbolton Classic Car show yesterday and was really smitten with the car.

I'm not qualified to comment on that but the car got a 4* NCAP rating in 2002. Report here: www.euroncap.com/en/results/audi/a2/15563
I always believed, possibly mistakenly, that the Audi Space Frame construction made it a pretty substantial structure.
Here's what Audi say on their website - www.audi.co.uk/glossary/a/audi-space-frame.html: The Audi Space Frame is a high-strength aluminium frame structure into which all panels are integrated so that they also perform a load-bearing function.
In connection with these high-strength aluminium panels, the aluminium body is noted for its exceptional rigidity, resulting in high crash protection, yet also for its substantially lower weight.
The benefits of aluminium in the Audi Space Frame are reflected not only in the low weight and the high rigidity of the body, but also in a level of design freedom for parts and complex profiles that's unattainable with steel panels.
Advantages include greater safety, increased performance, improved handling, lower fuel consumption, ease of repair and attractive insurance premiums.
Certainly sold it to me, anyway.
Perhaps have a chat with your neighbour and see if they'll show you the service records for the car. I think Audi say cambelts should be changed at 4 years or 40,000 miles. But if it's survived this long I wouldn't have thought it would have done any damage - just change it immediately you get the car!
I think I paid somewhere in the region of £400 for a new cambelt, tensioner, water pump (always best to change as it's a lot of labour to change it separately) and fresh antifreeze. Done at a trusted local Audi independent garage.
If you are really serious about a purchase maybe try and view a couple of others so you get used to how they look and sound, and possibly a test drive at a used car dealer. Hassle I know but sometimes it's best not to buy the first one you see - sorry, you may know all this already - just trying to be helpful!

RE PCP, if this does turn into the next scandal it will have been perpetuated by the predecessor to the FSA and the bedroom brokers who were unlicensed. Having always been properly licenced (old CCL) now FSA Authorised we have procedures in place to ensure mis-selling can't happen (ie our clients fully informed and all options explored).
Re end of lease penalties, the horror stories are now few and far between and should a funder (or collection agent) 'try it on' as a broker we wade in sharpish to resolve it. (Another reason to use a broker - we deal with all the hassle).
