Most diesel pumps use the diesel going through them to lubricate them - after all, it is an oil. So if that is the case, and no diesel in there to lubricate, then it will fail sooner or later.
If the pump is working, then why are you bypassing it ?

Looking for some help with a couple of issues my 59-plate Focus has developed.
I bought the car 13 months ago and everything has been fine... until recently. When turning the ignition on, the yellow engine warning and ABS/TC lights come on and remain on until about 15/20 seconds after I start the engine. As well as this, I can't operate the electric windows until the warning lights go out.
Once the car is moving, everything is fine - no warning lights and no issue with the windows. But the next time I start the car, the issues return. There are seemingly no other electrical issues - no other warning lights or inoperable electrics. Does anyone know what could be causing this?
Also, the car is trying to stall itself when in neutral. When slowing to a stop (traffic lights, etc.), I go down through the gears until about 10/15mph when I take it out of gear. As I bring the car to a stop the revs keep dropping and the engine begins to stutter - if I don't push the clutch in, the engine stalls. What could be causing this? How could it be fixed?

Hi, I have a problem with my focus. While driving home on the motorway on Friday the car broke down, the glow plug coil light started flashing and the engine died. After about 20 mins the engine restarted and I managed to get off at the next junction before the same thing happened again. The AA came out and towed me home stating it was probably the fuel pump or injectors. The next morning I managed to drive the car to my brothers house and once again the engine died. It now won't start at all.
Does anyone have any ideas what the fault is likely to be. Having done some research some people were suggesting it might be the in tank fuel pump. Does the TDCI have an in tank pump? Or isn't that just a fuel gauge unit in there?
Any help would me much appreciated the car was a great car with only 80k on the clock would be a shame to break it if it is something simple to fix.

Make sure you have good compression on all cylinders, and that the spark plugs are good. Be sure to eliminate anything else that would cause a misfire before you suspect an injector.
A 'fuel injector' fault code would only be set if there was an electrical short circuit or open circuit, whether that be the injector itself or the wiring. The ECM cannot physically see the injector, nor can it know if it's blocked, hosing, or stuck open. So this means that a fault code that says Fuel Injector does not necessarily mean the injector is the fault....
I was wondering if anyone's got any advice, We are thinking of buying a 57reg ford s max and when we took it for a test drive I noticed that there's a gap between the dashboard and the small window at the front next to the windscreen. Photo would help? I had one for five years so know a fair bit about them (to be honest not that much - it was very reliable). I don't recall a gap.
Some advice please... - wife involved in very minor side of vehicles scrape with 3p - seems possible 50/50 blame - damage to each vehicle only minor surface scratches (no dents/bumps) - prob repair less than £200 in each instance - 3p wishing to settle if possible outwith insurance with each settling own costs. Is of appeal to avoid NCD/ paperwork/ premium loading issues etc... - vehicles travelling VERY slowly. Would of course advise my insurer "FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES - NOT CLAIM" to ensure complying with policy T&C's - but realise they may still well try and load something come next rnl (insurers being insurers !!). Can anyone see any major pitfalls moving forward?? - many thanks Read more
Many thanks - did think about the whiplash issue further down the line etc....but looking at the circumstances of the minor scrape (vehicle side wheel arches at about 5 mph max) then any insurer that would consider whiplash/personal injury in this instance must be insane ! - but I do take your point.

I have a 318i bmw on a 07 plate and this morning whilst driving noticed that when driving over any small bumps on the road there was quite a severe clanking sound coming from the passenger side front wheel which has never happened before. I pulled over immediately and noticed the wheels are nearly touching the wheel arches.....might seem like a stupid question as cars and problems are not my forte.....is it likely it is the suspension or could it be something else......unfortunately I have been ripped off several times By different garages since my son moved away as he used to come with me.....any advice would be really appreciated......thank you Read more

The handbook will give info for emergency release if the shifter is stuck in P park. The fact yours is stuck in D drive is a different problem.Could be a mechanical issue with the shift cable or gearbox linkage.
