When looking at car details what are the key factors which effect acceleration, please ?
Obviously most give 0-62 time but even I know this is only part of the story. Read more
As others have said, in-gear acceleration (30-50 in 3rd gear, 40-60 or 50-70 in 4th) is a much more important gauge of how a car performs in the real world on the road. It shows how the car picks up and goes, for example when you are overtaking.
The engine's torque output, gearing and weight are factors but as mentioned, it also includes less tangible factors such as throttle response (which is by no means identical from car to car) and turbo lag....
Late 2013 50k miles mainly motorway hence less brake wear than normal day to day.
Dealer advising rear discs (and pads) need replacing. I challenged disc replacement as only 50k miles… After several discussions with the technician I picked up there may be a problem on models fitted with the electric hand brake which seems to grab the disc when driving..... Read more
Had a D5 V70 3 years ago. Nice car but discs went the same way as yours. After 50k miles they had quite a lot of wear due to underuse.
In my case I refused to use the horrible and superfluous electric handbrake so I might have been spared more problems. ...

Have around £10,000 to spend on a premium comfortable used vehicle. Have been considering an S Class but concerned that maintenance and any repair bills will be astronomical. Fuel consumption is not a concern. Does anyone have any guidance as to what would be a good used buy? The main criteria is comfort, smooth ride and a reliable auto box and ideally a car that will not cost its purchase price in repair bills. Very much open to all makes and the badge is not important. Intersting post, I have an S Class from the insurance...don't ask me how...and it's amazing. I reckon an E class would be worth a look at. Don't take much notice of the older Mercs gloom people. I know loads of folks who have them. A good indie can keep costs at a reasonable level.
I have wondered if, in an accident, a sunroof might provide less protection than a standard roof.
Also, any feelings about them - good or bad. Read more
>>I dislike sunroofs- too noisy at speed.
Must depend on the car, mine is pretty quiet at any speed that conserves your licence.
Hi Guys
