Ok so long story short, my dad runs a transport business, got diagnosed with 3 different cancers then had a stroke leaving him unable to speak now. Ive been left running the business with no real guidance alongside my newborn. My dads long family friend helps out from time to time and we thought the merc was insured for him. Turns out it isnt and he had a bump....

Insurance is paying out for our van as its a writeoff but they wrote to the guy saying although they are fighting for not to blame, if we are then this guy is liable for costs?... Read more

If your insurers are handling the case and paying you out as its a write off it would appeared the insurance is in order.

As if the drivers wasnt insured to drive the van they would not be paying out....

Hi, we are a family of 6, some grown up and left home, but we are holidaying together in Toronto region soon. We want to hire something like a Ford Galaxy.

We had one for years, then a Mitsubishi Grandis - in both cars you can travel 6 + plenty of luggage because you can arrange the seating 2 in front, 3 in middle, 1 in back with 7th seat folded down to give luggage space, so for 6 people the seating is 2+3+1. Same with pretty much every MPV in Europe. I am just off the phone to Avis in Toronto. Every MPV there (from the USA market) is 2 in front +2 in middle plus bench or small 3 seats in the back, meaning it is impossible to hire a car that will take 6 people plus luggage! - you can't even carry 5 people without using the 3rd row, and certainly not 6 plus luggage.

Next we looked at hiring 2 x mid sized cars, something like a Golf, preferably an Estate... with 2 of them we could seat 6 between 2 cars easily with plenty of luggage space. NOT IN THE USA (or Canada) forget it, they only do "sedans" which have s*** about of boot space. ... Read more

For the NA market, try a Chevrolet Suburban, they have 7 seats plus an enormous boot even with all the seats up, or as others have suggested, get an American van. They are lovely, Either Ford Econoline or Chevrolet/GMC Express. Acres of room inside those and a lovely v8 engine.

I left my stupid lights on by accident and the battery died, so I had to jumpstart it with my dad's car. Now the radio, aux, and all the others are gone. There's no light or anything, it isn't asking for the code as well.

How do I fix this? I just got the car a month ago, I don't even know the serial for the radio unit so I can't get the code (if that was to solve it). Do I have to press something to bring up the code command?... Read more

I am the owner of an 18month old Jaguar XF. I have never been happy with the car. I live in a very rural area and find the ride on the local roads to be really uncomfortable. I'm looking at getting rid of it and swapping it for a 4x4. Today I picked up a Lexus NX 300h for the weekend. I've done about 40 miles in it today and the ride is too firm for me. Can anyone recommend a 4x4 that is actually smooth to driver. My budget is around £45k. Thanks Read more

If you like the NX but the ride is too hard try an RX.

Hi I have had my Focus for a couple of years now and since i have had it everything seems to be alright. But I have noticed recently that my eye level brake light is not working. Now I have read a couple of posts on various sites and they said to check the fuse and if thats ok check the cabling on the boot lid. Simple enough wouldnt you think? But where is the blessed fuse for the light? I have checked under the dash, all the fuses, and cant find any problems so is it hidden in some obscure place?

Are we sure that it isn't something as simple as the wires where they're joined to the spade terminals on the bulb-holder contacts? Ford does use very thin wire and a connection could have been strained the last time that the bulb was changed. I would inspect for a broken wire or corroded spade terminal, then get a meter and check for 12v with someone pressing the bake pedal, and check the other side for continuity to earth.

Hi all,

My Zafira 1.8 Auto has an hesitation when at idle revs. Once on the move it is absolutely fine and accelerates fine. It is most noticeable when at junctions whilst in 'drive' waiting to move again, where the car can be quite juddery. It does not really register on the rev counter though.

I had to replace the rear silencer when I got the car as it was blowing a little and was vey rusty and worn compared to the other sections. I thought that this might be the cause of the hesitation but it is still there. I believe that the exhaust also has a small leak from the seal after the Cat. I also know that the thermostat needs replace as it is stuck open but I don't think that that would be be the cause of the hesitation. I have changed the air filter.

I can't say whether or not this is affecting the fuel economy as I am not sure what I should be getting, I filled the tank recently and have used just over a quarter of a tank covering 185 mile (combined motorway and town driving). Not sure if this is good or bad.

I am considering removing the throttle body and cleaning it. According to an invoice with the car it has had the MAF changed 15k ago. I had an MOT done a couple of weeks ago and the emissions were bang on, including the lambda reading with only advisory being a slight leak on the back box. It did have the P0170 fault code.

Any ideas would be gratefully received. Read more

Thanks!

I have a Handa Izy mower that will not start. If I remove the air filter and squirt fuel direct into the carb, it will start and carry on running fine. Aslo after it has run for a few minutes it will start straight away.

But each week I go to use it, I have to go thriugh the same procedure. Any ideas?... Read more

Try a new spark plug and drill a small hole in the fuel tank filler cap. Worked for me.

I currently own an 08 Renault Clio Campus, it has only done 26,000 miles, has a full service history and was in immaculate condition. However it is going to be wrote off due to someone going into the passenger side. I payed just short of £3500 for the car and i was wondering wether yiou would be able to let me know what its value would be and how much i should get and expect for it. Thanks Read more

Well I assume the original poster might want the maximum value if his is written off, hence referring to Autotrader prices.

Hi I'm having to drive around with my heater on full to stop the temperature light coming on, what is the most likely cause?. Coolant levels are fine had an air block a while ago but that is all sorted now. Don't dare take the car further than local areas. Thanks Read more
