hello all
now this happened a few years ago and has happened again today.(sort of)...will run you through what happened.
car is a 1.5dci nissan qashqai +2 ,non dpf bought from new. its not a 4wd (has the renault 1.5dci engine) 2010 reg
im a very carefull driver, dont push it hard, and change gears at around 2k revs, just for your info in case that helps.
cars been serviced from new at the intervals in service book. by an indy.
at 2 years old with around 25k mileage first time it happened . . . was driving for around an hour, country lanes, had to pull to one side to let a lorry pass in narrow lane, got stuck in the mud.
now i tried to get out of this bog but im no good in this situation.
i will say tho, i did not try for long . i must of tried a few times and no more then a couple minutes in total and at say 10 sec bursts of trying to move car toward the road. i was just wheel spinning everytime, and i dident look at revs, so dont know if i overdone it or not but i was listening to the sound of the engine trying not to overdo it.
all of a sudden, wife shouts theres smoke!....i sht myself ....popped the bonnet and ...sht myself again..oil filler was like a gas stove kettle, smoke at high pressure streaming from oil filler (with the cap on btw)
the smoke was to my untrained eye, whitish grey? more white tho i would say. smell.. i dont know, just smelled of oil tbh.
so, i left it for 10 mins took cap off and smoke wafting out , took around 20 mins to clear. also i tried dipsick, not much from there. tractor pulled me out, went to nearest garage and changed oil.
i will point out, there seems to have been no loss of oil or coolant. and oil temp gauge was just in the middle where it normally is.
now this is where you can call me an idiot.
I did not do anything about it to investigate even tho it was in warranty  altho i was going to , but as it was driving fine, i did not urge myself to.
now today, got stuck on a strip of grass, wheel spinned a couple times, thought, im not doing this! and checked the engine...no stream of smoke, but, took cap off oil filler, and had some white smoke, but only a very small amount. ive read this is normal tho for a diesel, to a certain degree.
car now has 78k on it. it drives all good, no oil loss or top ups needed between services, (12k)
and coolant changed at the 4 year mark. also, no white mayo under oil filler cap (yes i been reading lol)
altho i said no loss to coolant when first happend, when garage did change the coolant it lost some, so when new, the level was half between min max lvl, when changed at 4 years it was at say the 1/4 level. but ive read this is normal?.
I think ive covered everything for you to get your teeth in for now, but prob not lol.
guys, thanks in advance for your time reading this, im just worried about it a little, always in the back of my mind.
i will pop back tomorrow about same time.
All the best
john
ps, just a little info, in case it matters. i started to do oil and filter changes myself, noticed few days ago, changed oil. with the oil drained, i put key in to turn electrics on, oil level monitor pops up with full bars and ok. so will book into indy to check it. Read more
I'm very upset by articles advocating left foot braking in two-pedal cars, ESPECIALLY by the older generation. My father, who is now 84 and has in the past 10 years only driven DSG cars, has taken up this practice (for some reason I cannot talk him out of) and as a passenger, I can tell you it's a genuinely horrible experience; lousy control, jerky braking, sudden stops, occasional ABS activation for no good reason, actually hitting objects at low speed from time to time, and all because of poor brake control. There is NO ADVANTAGE whatsoever to this idea. I have owned 6 autos from Subaru to 735i as well as 22 manual cars and have never braked with the left foot in any of them. Forget rallying, it is an utterly pointless practice on the road. If the driver cannot control a two-pedal automatic with one foot they simply should not be driving. Read more
Hi all, I have a problem with my 2002 Mondeo tddi, I had a wobble on the front under braking, so put this down to a warped disc and was going to renew both on th front, but before I could do it the dmf went, so it's just had a new dmf and clutch etc.
The lower rear gearbox mount is also shot, evident by the sound of it clonking when taking up drive or when going on or off the throttle when in motion, the garage has ordered one and are going to change it on Monday.
But now the vibration is a hundred times worse, it starts at around 35mph and just gets worse the faster I go, by 65mph it literally feels like the front of the car is bouncing up and down, it's not very strong through the steering wheel like a balancing problem with a wheel but the whole car is shaking eventually.
It's not evident when stationary, the engine is smooth as silk, clutch and gear changes feel absolutely how they should.
I've noticed also that at around 30-40mph this shaking gets instantly even worse when I turn the steering wheel to the right round an even slight bend.
I'm thinking that it could be something to do with a driveshaft, but could it be the gearbox mount causing this ?
The brake pedal was pulsing under braking previously which made me think it was a warped disc, but it doesn't appear to be now.
Any advice or help would be much appreciated, regards, Dave. Read more
Inboard drive-shaft joint failing.
pull the inner boots back and have a check of the joint. Think they are 3 lobe tripod style....
I have been prevaricating about buying this new Golf for about 3 years now as I was worried about the Electronic Hand brake system. A road test this week completely allayed my fears and found it a delight although was not able to try it on very steep hills.
However I was surprise to find that my dealer in Sevenoaks had exactly the car I wanted in stock in Relfex Silver so bought it there and then and pick it up next week. But what worries me now, having put a £1000 deposit down is what is the best way to pay the balance.... Read more
My bank, yesterday, did give me the telephone number of CS, whom I had phoned last week, anywat. It's a pity I cannot talk to the Fraud dept and tell them to be prepared so to speak but that was never suggested.
When the car is travelling at about 40+ mph, it has not issues. But when driving for about 20 mins and getting stuck in traffic for about 5mins, the gearbox locks into 2nd gear and the engine, ABS, traction, battery lights come on, the revs need keeps dropping and the gear postion shows -- instead of P 1 2 3 etc... It's the AF40 model gearbox on a 1.9 diesel, 06 plate.
The engine temp can be around 80 to 88 & gearbox temp 80 to 85 when this happens. Then when turned off & left to cool off 20mins, drives ok. I have tried the following to fix:... Read more
Any basic checks performed?Alternator charging voltage when fault occurs??
Can you communicate with other modules during failure?
Now the Shuttle is more than 16 years old we are being refused breakdown cover for our holiday in Germany/Poland. Although I have every confidence the car won't let us down, we need to have some peace of mind. Can anyone recommend a European breakdown service for older/classic cars??
Euro breakdown cover/recovery is not always what one would expect. Chech the terms carefully, in certain cases and with certain companies should the cost to repair/recover exceed the value of the car it will be written off with you receiving the usual market value.
Please can anyone help me with the code for car radio serial number M116332.
Thanks Read more
The correct Keycode for your radio should be: 0177
Dear Members,

Either your scantool does not support the required protocol to communicate with the SRS controller, or you have a broken communication wire between the controller and the diagnostic port. Failing that you could have a supply or earth fault to the controller.
Hi There
Im Just wondering if anyone could help, i just purchased a zifira b (on a 57 plate) over a week ago off a private seller, which seemed in good nick,
anyway after a couple of days driving the car i noticed the dreaded engine light appear on the dashboard of the car, and i noticed that the ashtray was missing from under the handbrake which sent red flags flying,
so instead getting someone to check in the garage i decided to give it a go at getting a bluetooth obdll connector and plugged it into the connector in the car and i downloaded the torque app from google playstore but i kept on having problems establishing a connection wirelessly or by blue tooth so i went onto amazon and got a op-com usb diagnostics scanner and i made sure i had the micro adapter so i could plug it into my galaxy s5 neo smartphone, it automatically started torque as soon as i connected it but i keep getting the same error message all the time, which is really frustrating because i have triad messing with the settings etc, i am a pretty tech person most of the time,
((No Response From The OBD Adapter,Did You Select The Right Baud Rate))
Could anyone please tell me where i am going wrong or if theres another problem somewhere,??... Read more
Op-com only works with windows computers, connected by USB.
For the Torque app, make sure you have paired your phone to the bluetooth OBD before opening the app....

The tsi engines also don't have an EGR valve. This function is done using variable valve timing. On later diesels EGR becoming more complex to reduce NOx - and less reliable

Here is a quote from the IAM (now IAM Roadsmart): so some support for both views on the subject, depending on circumstances.
Our current policy is not to left foot brake in a two pedal automatic vehicle except when conducting a manoeuvre at slow speed....
