Hi,
We have an 08 plate Zafira that has failed its emissions test miserably. When put on a Vauxhall computer indicated the oxygen sensor or thermostat. We changed that and also have put a new cat on, it's coming up with nothing else faulty but still failing on the emissions, do you have any clue why or advise on what we could try next?

I don't have the info myself, but those who do have it might be more willing if they read the word "please" or something like that.
Does anybody know what the position will be be in the following situation.
I have recently had my Golf R stolen from the driveway. The car was privately leased with £2800 put down as an initial deposit. I have found out from the insurance company that the car has been valued by them at £26k, however I have also found out that the settlememt figure put forward by the lease company is £21k. On that basis there will be a £5k surplus upon the settlement.... Read more
strange situation, im not sure what your position is?
I took my Ford Focus to main dealer for a diagnostic. The car is having the following symptoms. Engine malfunction light comes on intermittently. Tends to come on when stopped with engine idling. It sometimes comes on and off driving at low speeds. There is no loss of power. Main dealer plugged it in and diagnosed erratic fuel pressures. Says the fuel pump needs to be changed at a cost of £1800. I was wondering if it's worth getting a refurbished or second hand pump and installing it myself. How difficult is this job and any advice would be appreciated. Read more
Look, at that prince I would try anything. Try a fuel aditive for injector cleaning. It doesen't work all the time but I've seen a lot of common rail engines that perform eraticly and the problem was resolved with a little fuel additive.
I use duralube or 200ml of 2t oil mixed with 500ml of gasoline, at o full tank of diesel. If you have DPF on your car, the oil-gasoline mix might do much more harm than good.
If you have a fast fill cap, you most likely can't put anything else in your reservoir unless you improvise something. I use a plastic pipe to open the cap.
Hello - I'm looking for a new car. I currently have a banged up old civic and am now looking at a Hyundai i40. Having never owned or driven a Hyundai, my question is are these cars any good? I have noticed they are very common as private hire taxi drivers in Glasgow and a couple have told me they are far better and more reliable than their precious skodas. Thank you. Read more
I'm on my second i40, both used as taxi. Up to 85k with no issues. They are fantastic on fuel, have a very premium feel both inside and out, and the reason they are so popular as taxi - they give the best warranty in the business but doubt you'll need it, these cars are solid! Also chain cam too!
Just suffered a broken coil spring on a regularly Ford serviced 59 reg Fiesta with low mileage (about 25000) - Is this a common fault with these models? I know it was fairly common with the previous model (and the Fusion version) but I presumed it has been resolved as there don't seem many reports regarding this on the 2008 onwards version. Is there an upgrade available or have I just been unlucky? The break is on the last turn at the bottom which seems to be the week spot on the previous version. I believe there was a zinc sacrificial plate made by Ford for the previous version - is the same available for my version?

And low-profile tyres as well... Deep tyres give more cushioning over rough road surfaces and ruts and speed humps. The 'modern' craze for low-profile tyres is, in my opinion, crazy. Reducing the profile depth of tyres takes away part of the vehicles suspension, gives a rock-hard uncomfortable ride, often results in damaged wheel rims, sends shocks through the car to give the driver a bad back and cause premature failure of parts - and premature broken springs. Bring back 70-profile tyres, says I.
Cars are really just too complex today to be reliable. We need to return to a concept where a car is first and foremost a means of getting from a to b rather than a computor on wheels, then we might have a reliable vehicle. Read more
I have a 55 Reg 1600 Focus Zetec. I had an intermittent ignition fault that caused misfiring on two occasions with an engine warning light. It turned out to be rusty plugs and plug leads. My mechanic said it was caused by a leaky core plug that let water into the plug tray. I disagreed with him because the car has never used any coolant, in fact I have never topped it up and you would expect the coolant level to fall. The RAC man said it was a leaking bonnet so I beefed up the rubber seal but it happened again. I then read on Honest John I think, that the early Focus developed leaky screen washer jets and by placing some material over the plug tray in wet weather sure enough that was it. I then found that Ford had modified the jet assembly with a better quality rubber grommet . I replaced them and this solved the problem. It wouldn't happen on a modern Focus because the bonnet has a felt sheet attached to it and the engine has a plastic cover over it. My 55 Reg has neither.
Dear John,
I've just read PI's comments about credit hire. My car was shunted in the rear before Christmas and the other driver admitted liability. My insurers put me onto an accident management company who offered me a credit-hire car. I refused as:... Read more

If you can post up the miserable fail emission figures, then forum members may be able to offer some assistance.Throwing parts at this ad infinitum is not the way to a fix.
