This evening I came face to face with a woman in a Porsche Cayenne. She decided she could not get through the gap between the van parked on my side of the road and so I passed the van and gave her some sign language to move to her left as she was almost 2 metres from the kerb (with her front wheels on full lock for some reason?) she then mouthed "I've got nowhere to go".

Why do people buy these cars if they are not capable of learning the size of them? ... Read more

The problem with X5's Q7's RR's and the like is that they are often bought by road bullies, who use the size of the vehicle to force their way through without care or indication or any form of correct lane use, the ignorant in other words.

They are not alone in this, but as with lorry drivers who behave in this way they stand out like a sore thumb, gaining the name for themselves they wouldn't like (though care less) and unfortunately tarring those who don't behave like this but drive similar vehicles with the same brush....

Hello All, my youngest son, who lives in Sheffield, has just contacted me to ask my advice regarding a Mercedes car he has been offered by a friend of a friend. It is C220 CDi estate and is a 12 registration, but and here's the rub, it has 105000 miles on the clock. It does apparently have FSH but even so I think he could be buying a money pit if things go wrong. He points out that my Skoda Superb has nearly 200000 on the clock, but I have owned and fully serviced it from new and really looked after it. His friend wants £9K for the Merc, which may be a good price, I don't know, but it is a lot of money to risk on such a high miler with potentialy very expensive service and repair costs. I would be grateful for any useful advice to pass on from any forum members who have experience of Mercedes cars. Cheers Concrete Read more

Ring up your local MB dealer and get service to quote you the costs of the next two services.. Then decide (two as one will likely be major). Make sure they include VAT in the quote. (I doubt there ill be change from £1k for the total)

The worst locally is leaving our town. 30 mph limit. Warning sign saying danger, slow down. Then 25 meters on, a 40 mph limit sign ..

So let me get this right. Thirty limit (and probably street lighting) end as you exit urban area. Still lots of side turnings though so new limt is 40. ...

My car ( and a neighbours) was hit by an elderly lady yesterday, who then drove off. We have informed the insurance company and police of her number.

Direct Line will supply the car via a car hire company here in Ipswich. DL originally told me this would only be for 3 weeks but on ringing back they tell me it will be provided until the car is repaired.

Exactly how it should be. If you pay the extra you should get the car.

A couple of weks ago a well know UK weekly car magazine carried out a test of the cars in the title. The result was very close. This week, in the letters section, a reader had written to say he'd changed from an E-class to a Superb. The dealer told him he was the fourth to go from a Merc to a Superb. The tide seems to be turning, even more swiftly.

Would I buy a new Superb instead? No. Last model? Yes. If VAG can't be bothered to make the rear seat fold down flat on a car at that price, I won't bother either. Read more

No-one here has yet offered to share their expertise, and specify the details of what the differences are between e.g. E Class and Superb, or Golf and Focus, or even Bentley and S Class.

With so many parts being made by third parties and bought by many of the car brands, it makes one wonder.

I checked out the above car for a friend, the car appears in good condition however oil was spitting out of the filler cap whilst idling ( this spitting increased when the revs were increased ). I suspect this is indicative of a cylinder head problem or worn valve seats and I'm inclined to walk away from the car. Can somebody please advice as to what this spitting is caused by? Read more

Rule no 1

Don't take the oil filler cap off with the engine running.
