Hi, did you ever find the reason behind the problem? I have a 2012 caddy with the exact same problem.

you're welcome, forgot to mention, we bought the same vehicle in 2007 auto too, only used it for one serious long distance tow, rest of the time local, middle of summer heavy 4 wheel trailer with car on board so probably close to its relatively low max towing weight loaded, total of about 400 miles all in, not once did the transmission light come on.

On the way back we stopped for tea and sandwiches, the trailer brakes seemed useless and it was then whilst empty that i noticed that two of the rear brake drums were empty !!, and as such due to excess pivoting in the linkage there wasn't a single brake doing anything on that (borrowed) trailer...gulp...cue panicking the rest of the way back lest we got a tug from VOSA....

Am just about to push the button on some new winter tyres for the 320d. I can get a set of Michelins (or premium equivalent) for around £120 each whereas a set of Vredesteins or Falkens are around £90 each. I believe that both of these are reputable but am bearing in mind I drive a RWD so need to cater for that if we get any of the white stuff.

I've no problem paying for stuff if it's worth it but what's the general view on this? Are the premiums worth the premium? Read more

Treated myself to 2 new front tyres before our predicted "bad winter" as tread down to less than 3mm, and the original fitting kumhos have developed cracks between the treads

Car still as boringly efficient as ever. 45 mpg local and 50 on a run, with no dpf/egr etc.... Read more

Have now ordered another new tyre and using the brand new avon I fitted with the full size spare will have 4 new tyres on before winter (hopefully no snow in Essex before friday) and the spare will have 4mm.

Nice to see a good consensus,...

My Toyota IQ was supplied with adhesive dealer and Toyota "5 year warranty" stickers on the inside of the rear window. Please say if removal of these stickers and associated adhesive is likely to damage the heating elements in any way. Read more

Bit of a head scratcher this one. I bought a 2014 Titanium X Sport (manual) with 7.5k on the clock about 5 months ago. It's now done nearly 20k.

On Saturday morning and again yesterday afternoon I noticed a strange knocking sound inside the car. At first I thought it was someone hammering in the street, but when I turned the engine off the noise went away and came back when I started the car up again. I opened the bonnet and could not hear the noise. I went round the back to where the exhaust is and still could not hear the sound, but when I got back in the car it was clear as day! I tried to figure this out for a few minutes and the noise then mysteriously stopped.... Read more

Head scratcher indeed. i believe i have the same noise. like when you are in the car there is someone outside tapping with a hammer somewhere in the dpf area. then the noise dissappears and not heard for a couple of weeks. Question is did you get to the bottom of it?

Cheers

It's years since I went and looked around one, but still remember how browsing seemed to be discouraged and I was made to feel uncomfortable.

I can think of many other type of "shop" I'd be happy to spend time looking around without feeling like I was a nuisance for not buying anything, but not a car showroom.... Read more

not noticed to many "yummie mummies"

I can 100% garantee that some of the "yummie mummies" are less than yummie. Way too many breakfasts and other meals for that matter....

Hi,

I'm about to purchase a 2006 Ford Focus 1.6 Sport, the advert in autotrader stated that it had 113 bhp. The garage I'm buying it from says that autotrader automatically populates this data based on the registration number, and he was pretty sure it was accurate.

When I entered the registration number into direct line forms for insurance quotes today though, it returned "Ford Focus 1.6I (100) Sport 5dr", the "100" making me think it might actually be the 100ps engine.

How can I tell for sure which engine is in it? I was specifically looking for the 115ps model, so fear I may be getting mis-sold.

Cheers Read more

Never mind, I've just found the FordEtis site and looked it up through there, it has confirmed it is the 115ps model.

That's exactly what happened to the friend who had the problem. The turbo bearings seized, causing the seal to fail, oil was drawn into the engine, and it had a complete runaway on the limiter until it blew. He'd noticed a few weeks before that the turbo seemed a bit noisy, and was intending getting it looked at at the next service.

It happened to him whilesitting on the M6, with his wife and 2 kids in the car. Fortunately he had the presence of mind to knock it into neutral.
