Mr Carrot Cake

God a 2008 Kia Cee'd diesel last week and I'm noticing there is a vibration from the engine at idle and noticeable vibration through the steering wheel as the revs get up towards 2000rpm. Any ideas what could be causing it? Read more

Whilst I appreciate your reply I think most Kias seem to last quite well. They're not bad for reliability. In fact i believe Toyota's diesel engines had a problem with carbon deposits building up on the pistons which raised the compression ratio and caused the head gaskets to fail.

Happy Blue!

M60 Junction 17 (not 16) is Prestwich. Always very heavy going down into 'Death Valley' - the Irwell valley between 17 and 16.

At the moment 50mph limit through several miles of roadworks on the M62/M60. Great for fuel economy....

I have a 2015 Toyota Yaris Excel and I want to upgrade the headlight bulbs for winter. I was thinking of getting OSRAM cool blue intense (fully road legal) I believe that the fitting is H4 but i've heard that this is not the case because this car has projection headlights and no upgrade bulbs are available? The car also has LED daytime running lights built into the headlight unit as standard. Help appreciated thanks. Read more

I think you'll find they're an HIR2 bulb.

There's been a recent thread on the Toyota Yaris forum: tinyurl.com/pmu9mch...

My 2008 Fiat Panda (25k mileage) wouldn't start, although battery was okay. Green flag man thought it was crankshaft sensor. Took it to Halfords, Sydenham who said they couldn't connect it to their computer so thought something was wrong with the ECU. They told me i needed to talk it to a fiat dealership and they didn't charge me any diagnostic fee. I took it to Ancaster Bromely road, who phoned me up after the initial £50 diagnositc check and said their computer was coming up blank and they needed to spend more hours on it to the cost of £225. At the time i had already moved the car twice and didn't feel i had much choice. So i said okay. They phoned me back to say there was water in the ECU and wiring at it would cost me £2700 pounds to fix. This in effect meant my car was a write off. I took the car away and went to the garage at the end of the road where it was stationed. The guy there cleaned up the top of the ECU, fixed a corroded pin and it works.

My question is, is it correct that they charged me £225 to diagnose this problem?... Read more

Any fool can diagnose an ECU, changing a main PCB in virtually any piece of electrical equpment will cure most elecrtrical faults and any one can do it.

Board changing is the name of the game these days, the clever guys are those who can diagnose and repair to component level. ...

Dare I ask if your Caterham has an oil pressure gauge?

It does but it needs a better man than me to watch the gauge whilst pushing hard on the track. A glance at the gauges whilst on the straits is as good as it gets....

Morning guys, many thanks for advice.. Before i drained oil, i did turn over engine in gear (push) then went for start which it did and ran ok before i turned off (2-3 secs)

The radiator actually ruptured along the top which would indicate a sudden rise in temp/pressure ? Head Gasket ?

That fine control problem with the DSG why I don't think we will ever have another. The 7 speed in our Roomster is amazingly good 99% of the time but the flaw is fatal. I can drive around its other foibles but it is impossible smoothly to inch up to a wall for example.

I bought a second hand corsa a few weeks back. After a week the engine blew due to no water ive replaced the engine with a new one as i really like the car. The issue is it still loosing water the garage has had it and says its something to do with the pressure. Whats happening is after Ive driven the car and i park up and turn off the engine the water bubbles up and overflows out the water expansion tank. (I think thats what its called). Ive ordered a new cap just incase thats damaged as the spring looks abit dodgy to me. Every car Ive had has always made a hissing sound due to the release of the pressure this dosent hence im getting the cap just incase.

First the garage said it was the water pump but when they went to replace it said it wasnt so didnt replace it. He has said its not the head gasket. ... Read more
