I'll give it another day to see if there are any new thoughts to come - otherwise I'll close it to avoid re-running an argument which I have to confess never had me gripped in the first place.

I am writing this post as a plea for HELP in the hope I can track down my stolen Audi A4.

Thieves helped themselves to it from outside my house (in NOTTINGHAM) on the night of Friday 9th Oct and I thought I might post here in case anyone locally or not locally might have seen it parked / dumped or anything else.... Read more

Hi. Earlier today I picked up a used 60 reg Diesel Auto. I drove it home easily and parked it on my relatively steep driveway. The handbrake is OK but does not feel amazingly secure but I have no idea how to put this in Park (as in an older torque converter box). Any advice, please? Read more

I'll have a pint of what you and Galileo are drinking Avant, but thanks for the vote of confidence, somehow the adventures and odd views of a luddite old lorry driver capturing the public's imagination i can't imagine, but will give it thought.

How long?, 39 years to date, but pales into insignificance with my barmy wonderful well spoken (convent educated) sister who's still doing the job now both here and abroad, she has been driving lorries since around '69 when she took the Class 1 HGV test, and immensily proud i am of her, she carved her own niche and was highly respected in the fairly small european drivers community of the main period, still is but she keeps a low profile....

My vote goes for a CCTV/ANPR camera!

I have recently seen a low tech version of this involving a British Transport Policeman (in a tall hat) simply noting down registrations of people not complying with the box junction/jumping the lights on a very busy level crossing! tinyurl.com/oulton-broad

The wheel bearings front passenger side are worn. Daft question but would i be right in thinking that a like for like HUB replacement, as opposed to tinkering with bearing kits, wourd sort out the issue , in as much that the bearings , i presume, are pre-installed in all new HUBS, ,regards , Brian Read more

Should be good old fashioned taper roller bearings in that car, usually last forever if you repack them with grease every few years.

Spin the wheel up and check for noise from the bearing, dependingon this you might find that if you remove the dust cover and undo the rather clever locking adjuster nut that you can pop the outer bearing out and inspect it leaving everything else in place, if it looks good and no undue noises from the inner bearing, a fresh batch of grease pushed down the shaft for the inner and the outer regreased, reassembled and adjusted up properly will see you back to all good....

Hi all,

Back in April in bought a 2013 Mazda 6, great (or so I thought) condition, fairly low mileage.

Last week i had a very slow moving accident as I was coming out of my drive and bumped another car. Very little damage but the assessment is that I need a new bumper. Fine, can cope with that, insurance is paying after all. HOWEVER, the recommended body shop I took it into has noticed some previous damage to the front nearside wing which has been repaired badly and needs rectifying. Thought they were trying it on so took it to another body shop AND the Mazda main dealer who all said the same thing. Without the repair work to the wing, the bumper wont fit on properly (apparently the bumper wasn't sitting properly before the accident, although I hadn't noticed - we're talking millimeters). So whilst the insurers are happy to pay for the new bumper, they are not, understandably, happy to pay for the previous damage.

I took the findings back to the broker and dealer who supplied the car to me but they have washed their hands of it, saying it was sold as seen, i'd signed for it etc. I have contacted the finance company who have told me to raise a complaint, which I will.

Where do you think I stand legally? I didn't (and wouldn't have) noticed the original bodged repair job when I bought it and it is only since I have had this accident that it has come to light. Do you think the dealer should be responsible for previous, poorly rectified damage? They have, in essence, sold me a damaged car but I understand that they may not have even been aware either.

Thanks guys, both very valid points. Just a bit peeved I suppose and venting my frustration at the extra cost.

Appreciate your replies.

Vehicle ran ok for about 2.5 hours then started to miss then cleared for about 10 miles then started to miss again then stopped completely , I have replaced fuel filter primed system at diesel pump I cracked injector pipe at injector although there is fuel there not sure of pressure can you advise thank you Terry Read more

Railroad.

Air getting into the fuel system anywhere between the fuel tank and the injection pump is the most likely cause. Thoroughly check all rubber fuel hoses for signs of perishing, and also check the fuel filter and housing. Air is getting in somewhere, and you need to find where. You could do much worse than to replace all the fuel hose on the vehicle.

Another cause could be the build up of dirt inside the fuel tank which collects at the fuel outlet and blocks it leading to fuel starvation. Unfortunately all fuel tanks regardless of what they carry will contain dirt and water. You cannot prevent this because of evaporation and condensation. Algae forms inside the tank if water is present. Use an airline and very gently blow back into the tank from the fuel pipe which takes fuel into the fuel filter. If you feel a resistance which suddenly clears you will know there is dirt in the tank....

Hi everyone really hoping I can get some advice on a nightmare situation that has happened today.

My wife took delivery of a brand new Seat Leon on a 3 year lease 3 weeks ago today. This morning when bending down to pick up a toy my daughter dropped on the pavement I noticed a plastic panel hanging down under the rear passenger side area. We took the car to a SEAT garage who put the car on a ramp. It looks like the car has been driven over a bollard or something because there is bad damage to the metalwork under the car, the plastic cover is ripped and only part of it is still attached and hanging down.

This must have happened even at the Dealership prior to hand over to the lease company or by the driver when he drown it down for delivery to us.

We checked round the whole car on delivery and even bent down to look at the wheels etc but never noticed this 3 weeks ago so are not absolutely gutted to find all this damage underneath the car.

So now we don't even know where to start, who to speak to and whether we have any rights?

We've rang the lease company today to tell them everything and they are going to contact the dealer where it came from but surely they won't own up to it even if they caused the damage?

Can anyone at all offer us any advice as we feel sick we've been absolutely stitched up. Thanks anyone that has taken the time to read this.

I would certainly challenge the dealer and get to hear what they have to say about the damage. However, don't be at all surprised if they deny all knowledge; as others have rightly said, three weeks is really too long to have let it go and it will probably be your word against theirs.

If that doesn't work you could just, presumably, claim on your insurance. Yes, I know it's wrong and you shouldn't have to do this but, presumably, if it's a lease car then, sooner or later, the car will have to be returned and the cost of repairing the damage would be held against you, so you might as well get it repaired correctly now....

Plenty for sale on Ebay but I think the 4500 is the one that's a bit of a pig to change.
