Does that sound like its burning to much?

Impossible to answer as you do not say how much oil you put in for how many miles....

I recently bought a Nissan Qashqai+2 1.6 Acenta petrol which I am not getting on with so it will have to go. I love the driving position but I want an automatic again. It is also woefully underpowered and I am forever changing gear to get it to go up even minor hills.

SWMBO has allowed me to increase the budget to £15k for a used car on condition that I keep it for at least 5 years. Given that I only do @9000 miles a year I am therefore looking for a petrol automatic estate or crossover capable of seating 4 adults in comfort and with room in the boot for a labrador. Reasonable running costs would be good too, but I just want a car that will last if such a thing is still made.... Read more

This probably isn't going to be helpful, but I wouldn't go for either of those.

The Mercedes is a big car for a 1.6 engine, and as an automatic it'll be even more sluggish; slower than your Qashqai I would think....

Hi,
1. It was dusk when I was driving but the street lights had not yet come on as there was still some light.I did not have my lights on though most of the other cars had.
As I approached a signal noticed that a red light had come on one of the mounted cameras which disappeared after I switched on my headlights. What does it mean?

2. Any idea how often people get penalized for driving without lights which are identified by a camera? Read more

My wife was reversing out of a car paking space stopped to change into 1st gear and was hit from behind. The car tried to go around (we asume) and he hitting her near side back bumber with his far side frount bumper of his car. He is aderment she was at fault and is asking for £400 as he didn't want to go through the insurance. Her car has very light scratches on he says he needs a new bumper side panel and paint to the pasanager door but none of this damage adds up in a 10mph car park? (no CCTV)

Now I cannot see how she could be blamed/atfault due to the frount left hitting the back right but find myself asking will this just end up being a knock for knock and cost lots more? ... Read more

Well there is no cctv but have spoken to my insurance company now I will have to wait and see how things pan out :(

Thankyou both for you help and advice.

Just wondering, with some oils that say "C3" on the front whether they cover A3/B3 aswell? Asking because I want to do an oil change soon for my corsa (2003) which needs A3/B3 Read more

Go to a Vauxhall dealer, get the correct oil and filter.also get a new sump plug,as this is often damaged.you will also need a good torx socket (male) to get it undone.

hello to all, first post on here and need some advice. Just had my Mistsubishi L200 54 plate written off due to a fire in the dashboard!. Upset as was great for what i needed and only had 31000k on the clock. Anyway, hoping the insurance pays out first and foremost as I was in France, another story. Decision now is the replacement, Hilux expensive but never heard of any problems, Navara looks great but no end of engine issues so I keep reading, or Isuzu Rodeo, solid but not exciting according to what i've read. I am no mechanic so talk of big end and prop shafts is wasted so please keep advice simple and easy for a bloke like me to understand! Would welcome all comments. Many thanks. Read more

Hilux might seem expensive, but the resale, especially if you look after it is superb, we bought a new 3 litre auto top of range for £21k in 2007 and sold it 3.5 years later for £15k.

Toyota dealers and back up stand head and shoulders above the others should it go wrong, the only issue they had was the injector seals (and rattling injectors) up to 2008, mine started to rattle out of warranty fixed under goodwill without a moments hesitation....

We are pleased with our electric Vauxhall Ampera purchased in 2014, but disappointed that what we thought was state of the art technology is virtually impossible to charge around the UK when travelling apart from domestic charging. We have used charging maps with no success. Ecotricity say there are very occasional charging points around UK but only slow charging. It is 3 point charging, but surely there ought to be better charging or the option of an adaptor charging plug to help. Any advice appreciated.

Railroad.

The concept of electric cars has been around for decades, but the same drawbacks still remain. You just can't go very far on a single charge.

To increase the range more batteries could be added, but that would also increase the weight which would be detrimental to the range, so it would seem electric cars have gone as far as they can go. I don't believe that life exists elsewhere in the universe but not as we know it, or any of the science fiction rubbish, and so the first law of thermodynamics that states that energy cannot be created nor destroyed is true. There is no magic undiscovered power source that means we can get an infinite life out of a cell the size of a watch battery....

Looking at a 2008 C4 with the 1.6 petrol engine developed with BMW. What are peoples' opinions of this car and engine? Read more

Had this engine in Mrs 72dudes previous car, Peugeot 207 auto. As SteveLee says, very smooth and eager to rev, surprisingly sprightly, but pulls fine from lowish revs too.

NOT an economical engine, mind. Best tankful was 41.5 MPG on a 200 mile round trip, but could easily drop to mid 20's around town/short journeys....

Stevieb : just because cars are up for sale on A/T at certain prices, doesn't mean they are selling for those prices.

A far better guide to realistic prices is actually ebay. Find the type of car and various details, and then select 'show completed listings'. Those in green have sold, or were close to selling at least.
