Just some advise people .
Went into Vauxhall yesterday looking at a second hand ( sort of ) car at the main Eden Vauxhall in Exeter.
This Astra gtc bi-turbo priced at £15999. Obviously going in with a price in mind of how much I want to pay a month.
Anyway after the talk , test drive and playing it safe the figures started to come out and they were well over what I wanted at £300 a month . Played this down for awhile and got this price down to £260 with about £500 marked off the car a few of the extras knocked off and asked for a lower APR.
Ideally I don't want to be paying any more than £250 per month . Do you think there will be anymore play in there figures . Looking at what the cars are up for on autotrafer private and dealers there all marked around or near the price they have listed .
Any input would be great as this was the first time I've haggled any price down..
To the end the story obviously walked out and kept them wondering Read more
Hi all,
I'm looking to buy a (used) car (Budget is under £10000), and one of the most important things in a car for me is the interior design (dashboard, center console, etc).... Read more
Indeed one should, and you're perfectly correct, Skidpan. But whether we like it or not, interior design helps to sell a car.
We've all done it - you go into a showroom and sit in a car. Before you get anywhere near to driving it, you're faced with the dashboard - which if you buy the car you're going to be looking at for some years.
I'm looking to buy a Porsche Boxster 2.7ltr 2004 are there any problems with the vehicle that I need to look out for Read more
Rear Main Seals can leak although can usually wait until a clutch change (and the clutches tend to go quite early).
You should research IMS failure although by 2004 most should have been sorted....

. Just come to the end of a 3 year lease and they are trying to charge me an additional £280. They tried to insist I had an Mot before it was collected despite not needing one for 2 months. Had the alloys repaired due to a couple of scratches and they said the repair wasn't up to Citroen approved standard so want £130. They failed to collect the car from the dealership but left it there uninsured for a week before anyone contacted me. They said the tyre tred was 1/10 th of a mm below the legal limit so made me replace two front tyres and then charge me £150 for a failed collection. I've leasing with Nissan, ford, and Renault and never had any problems. Read more

Well it is illegal to have a tyre like that...and it should have been replaced by you well before that.
It's worth knowing before taking out a policy with Warranty Direct (WD) that you CANNOT use the garage of your choice even if you paid for that service. The garage you choose must be VAT registered. I've just had a problem with my car, the local garage that I have used for the last 5 years came and helped me out and got the car to his garage. He identified the situation as needing a new alternator so I told him to order one and that I would get in touch with my warranty company. The alternator will arrive tomorrow to be fixed on Thursday. When I got home I telephoned Warranty Direct and informed them of the situation and the guy mentioned VAT registration. I said the garage isn't VAT registered and it seems that therefore I can't use him. I said that when I took out the policy I was quite pleased that I could use my own garage, I trust the mechanic. I asked the WD guy if he read all the small print of everything he signed up to, to which he replied, 'It's not in the small print, it's in the How to Make a Claim section'. I asked why would I read that before making a claim but evidently everyone else does. Anyway, even if I'd read that before purchasing the policy I wouldn't have known at the time that the guy I trust wasn't VAT registered, this only came about when I retired and we were talking about how difficult it is growing a business.
It seems that if a garage isn't VAT registered then they might be using someone's drive to repair cars on, indeed I might be repairing the car myself. This attitude stinks because it means the small guy misses out again, Kwikfit is ok, small guy is a cheat. ... Read more
I dont have that problem with WD, I paid to have Audi franchise do it. I read all of the documents before signing up.

My beautiful low mileage Alfa 156 was recently driven into which caused considerable light damage to the car, susbsequently the insurance company have written it off - CAT C. I have bought it back as part of my settlement and plan to put it back onthe road (not too worried about all the scratches and small dents, I can tidy it up over time).
I am led to believe that VIC's were to be phased out on October 1st 2015 but cannot find any reference to this actually happening. I am loathed the pay the £45 VIC charge so am prepared to wait until its finally dropped. Does anyone know when this will be?... Read more
From 26 October 2015, drivers returning a written off car to the road will no longer need to apply for a Vehicle Identity Check (VIC) to prove their vehicle matches the registration details.

In light of the recent emissions scandal, VW appear to be on lock-down in the UK. A lot of the UK media have naturally focussed their attention on Volkswagens dealings with their cars and customers. This was brought to the attention by SKY NEWS who broadcast this news report at the bottom of the following page http://www.corroding-volkswagens.com/vw-the-truth/... Read more
skidpan - A bigger question is why are you still buy from VW, I for purchase a hyundia which also went rusty at five years old and for sure no buying another one.
The VW was a 1989 Golf and was fixed in 1993 or 4. It was an isolated incident, all makes get them. The only body issue we have had with 5 VW's and a Seat. That is why we still buy VAG products....
I'm thinking of buying a dash cam in order to catch and shame other drivers. I live in Norwhich and don't come across a lot of road idiocy, but when someone messes up around here they REALLY mess up.

I put one in each of our cars. My wife drove into the back of another car at a roundabout. She accepted it was her fault, but her genuine memory of events was that the car ahead had set off, then stopped again.
In fact, when we reviewed the video, the car had simply stopped and waited. My wife had seen that the roundabout was clear, and had assumed he would go - she had just run into him while looking in a different direction! It turned out that he was from Newcastle, 200 miles away, so he was probably just wondering which way to go...not advised at roundabouts!...
Just to say that you should probably check out deals on new cars, rather than 'nearly' new. Basically, the manufacturer will give pretty decent finance conributions on brand-new cars where, those deals will not be available on anything that has already been registered for the road unless you are incredibly lucky.
As an example, just had a little look Vauxhall's website. They are quoting brand-new GTCs with monthly payments of £269 - though some of the plans have dowmpayments too.
