Hello,

I have a Mini One D REG55 and when it is started up in the morning the engine purrs intermittently and when in first gear and not accelerating the car jolts. Once the car is warmed up its fine however the engine is more noisy then usual.

Once I have been driving the car and the engine is hot, if I was to turn it off and leave it ten minutes, I would struggle to get it started. It sometime takes me 15 minutes to get it running. I normally try switching on and off the ignition a few times to engage the warm up for the diesel, then turn on the engine and pump the accelerator and that normally gets it going.

I have had this problem for about 6 months now maybe longer and it seems to be getting worse. I had a diagnostic test done by my mechanic and had the crank shaft sensors changed (mini official part) and a fuel pump (which seemed to fix it for a week or so) then I found a post about air being in the fuel line and one of the return valves could need changing. I told my mechanic about this however they can't seem to find any valves on the fuel line.

If you anyone could assist me, I would be most grateful

They would now like me to take the car to a specialist diagnostic center which sounds very expensive and would rather see if I can get sorted before hand so any advice would be great Read more

Yes sorry it was the fuel filters change not the fuel pump. It did fix it for a week or so then when back to not starting again

Indeed, especially as most VAG customers would have probably paid the extra if it had been fitted. Odd, considering German marques in my view have no problem charging a fortune for optional extras that most customer specify because they come under-specced compared to rivals for the price paid.

Walking to and around my town, on a daily basis I see pedestrians (mostly young) approach a crossing and press the button without even a glance to see if the road is clear.

Often the lights are red so traffic is stopped anyway, but they still have this "must hit the button" reflex. ... Read more

Thankyou, Focussed. I had no idea about those (I should have read the text in your link, shouldn't I?), but I'll keep a lookout for them.

The one I use most frequently is a Pelican crossing. It's very close to another set of lights at a major crossroads and I've spotted that a lot of motorists have most of their attention on those as they're approaching the lights on my crossing. I can feel that tendency in myself when I drive along that stretch of road.

Hi, I wonder if someone could help me, my daughters corsa developed the flashing F a few months ago, we managed to keep it working for a while by disconnecting and reconnecting the 2 plugs to the ecu, then that stopped working and we had to gentley tap the gear actuator to get the car to go into Neutral to get the car to start. We then decided it was a problem with the ecu, so we sent it away to be repaired, when it came back it was refitted and the clutch was bled twice, the car now starts but still has the flashing f and will not go into gear at all, so then we decided to buy an opcom obd2 which is comming up with P1700 which clears and P1723 which doesn't......have changed the gear selector motors and still the same problem, starts....no gears and a flashing F....any help would be much appreciated....need to be mobile again!

Many thanks in advance. Read more

To be honest unless you live in the wilds, you'd be just as well to change to proper all season tyres instead of pure winter tyres if you think you might have need of snow and ice grip...which you obviously do to have started the thread.

Note, proper all seaon tyres are stamped with the snowflake and mountain symbol which usually means they have at least part of the tread made with the correct compound of high silica content for sold weather grip, lots of good makes out there offer them, Goodyear, Vredestein, Uniroyal just three of many quality brands....

Whilst a 1.0 may not be the best for 350 miles a week keep the car. The excess mileage only comes into play if you want to hand the car back. You also don't say if the mileage is business related.

Who knows that in 12 months time your circumstances won't change again?

The universe provides! SEAT just called to say my Altea is 'an affected engine' so decision made to hand it back. Thanks, Markmo
