Mercedes C class, Skoda Yeti - What to buy for longevity of ownership? - ike2

I recently bought a Nissan Qashqai+2 1.6 Acenta petrol which I am not getting on with so it will have to go. I love the driving position but I want an automatic again. It is also woefully underpowered and I am forever changing gear to get it to go up even minor hills.

SWMBO has allowed me to increase the budget to £15k for a used car on condition that I keep it for at least 5 years. Given that I only do @9000 miles a year I am therefore looking for a petrol automatic estate or crossover capable of seating 4 adults in comfort and with room in the boot for a labrador. Reasonable running costs would be good too, but I just want a car that will last if such a thing is still made.

So far I have found two that I like and would welcome opinions on these plus any others I may have overlooked.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C Class 1.6 C180 Executive SE Plus 7G-Tronic with 30000 miles on the clock priced at £14990. (I remember HJ really liked the base model diesel C class when it first came out and he said it was the only car at the time capable of 1million miles in his opinion).

2014 Skoda YETI 5-DR 1.2 TSI SE DSG 5dr with 4000 miles on the clock priced at £14490. I have had a DSG gearbox on a previous Octavia and loved it.

All opinions and assistance gratefully received.

This probably isn't going to be helpful, but I wouldn't go for either of those.

The Mercedes is a big car for a 1.6 engine, and as an automatic it'll be even more sluggish; slower than your Qashqai I would think.

There have been too many tales of woe about the VW Group DSG transmission that keeping one for 5 years coyuld be too much of a gamble.

Try looking for a petrol Mazda 6 estate, or a Honda Accord or Toyota Avensis: I believe the Mazda is the best of them from a driver's point of view. If automatic versions of these are hard to find, then you could do a lot worse than a Ford - Focus or Mondeo estate, ideally with the 2.0 petrol engine.
