I've lost my rear trade plate and the DVLA say I need to return my front plate to them to be able to get a replacement set... but... I can't afford to be without the plates whilst I wait for the replacements.
I have a mate who can make up a replacement back plate for me... the problem is that the text will be black instead of red... would the police stop me if I displayed a rear trade with black text instead of red? Read more
I know somebody in the trade that didn’t renew their trade plates but kept them. Obviously highly illegal but how would he get caught?
Hi wonder if anyone can help. Yesterday whilst driving anti skid warning light came on followed by brake failure warning. Car then went into limp mode before immobilser was activated. After ten min I could start car again. This has happened several times in last couple of days with window wipers also switching on by themselves and not turning off! And indicators not working, all wile the brake messages and limp mode activated. The day before yesterday my car failed its mot and had the following work done.
Rear brakes cleaned and adjusted,
n/s/f coil spring supplied and fitted.
Rear number plate bulb
Do you think the two are related or is it just a coincidence that this has happened now? I did drive my car this afternoon back to the the garage, they hooked it up to diagnostic machine and said there were lots of communication fault codes which they have reset. I was told if problem persisted to try and take car back to them ASAP so they would' have less codes to read and might be able to narrow fault down. Tonight have driven for five mins and same problem occurred. Have driven car to garage and left outside for them to have a look at tomorrow. Would like heads up though if anyone thinks the work to vehicle and problems i am now experiencing are connected or just a co-incidence.I know from reading some websites this kind of problem is often attributed to CEM. Would like to explore all other possibilities first as I only had new ecu 5 months ago!!! Should say when I was at garage today they checked battery for load etc and alternator all appeared ok. Would welcome any advice
Many thanks

Another way to try and tackle this is removing battery neg lead. Then with a big screw driver connect to battery +ve terminal. The aa did this to my s40 and that also apparently resets the system. Did you try Volvo forum they can be a good source of info.
Year 2008 Peugeot 308 1.4l petrol engine [ Prince/Bmw motor? ] requires frequent topping up of oil. It is using less than the manual states as normal but has to be watched. Is this a design/fault with the engine and can I or should I do anything to reduce the oil consumption. The oil has been changed frequently and the car has 70,000 miles on it .... Read more

My sister has a corsa and she noticed when the car was idling after some time she could feel vibration from the seat and passenger. The gear was in neutral and what could be the problem?

My qashqai starts from cold runs 10 seconds then cuts out, leave it 15 minutes try again it will start again. Sometimes it is possible to get it to accelerate up beyond the cutout and then it will run all day. it started 7 days ago and is getting worse.
Is there a sensor which checks the fuel pressure for failsafe? if so where is it? Read more
It could also be a stuck open EGR valve. Everyone suspects fuel when this kind of thing happens, but it's easy to forget that engines also need a good supply of clean oxygenated air to enable them to run. If your engine is pulling its exhaust gas back it will become choked and cut out.
Hi all,
instead of buying a tired, old, partially 'restored' classic , for less money I'm considering a late low mileage Jaguar XJ, the facelifted X358 with the wing air intakes and keeping it for many years, possibly decades, as it's my favourite ever Jaguar saloon, who knows, in the future it may be as sought after as the MKII is today.... I should be so bold as to say that it is virtually impossible to keep a car like that in running condition for decades. The more complex a design, the less likely that it can be repaired economically (or at all). As previously stated, it's the computer parts that will be the problem. Bespoke circuits are very difficult or impossible to replicate, and even finding a "New Old Stock" item can be a disappointment; they simply die with age. The same applies to exotic Hi-Fi equipment from the 1980's, often fitted with some crucial part made from pure "Unobtanium".
Maybe the answer is to do a "Genome Map" of the car's complete electrical system and convert it into an App for whatever iPhone will exist in the future!

GB has a valid point - my Santa Fe was 2017kg, despite an all-alloy engine - all the additional equipment adds to the weight including fully independent long travel suspension with self-levelling adds up though.
First of all sorry if i post this in the wrong section, i tried the "Ask HJ" but could not find how to post a question.

I understand the arguments re DMF/SMF however this engine is at lower end of the tourque / power spectrum so would probably be OK with a SMF. However the DMF was fitted for a reason!...
