2004 Toyota Yaris 2004 998 cc 93000 miles - Oil spitting out of oil filler cap - johncyprus
I checked out the above car for a friend, the car appears in good condition however oil was spitting out of the filler cap whilst idling ( this spitting increased when the revs were increased ). I suspect this is indicative of a cylinder head problem or worn valve seats and I'm inclined to walk away from the car. Can somebody please advice as to what this spitting is caused by?

Has the rubber seal on the filler cap split or vanished completely, nearly all cars would throw oil out the filler cap if you took the seal out.

GB - Sorry should have written in my original post that this happens when the oil filler cap is removed.

I would be worried if oil did not spit out with cap removed

There is a valve (PCV) with hose attached on rear of engine cover - at oil filler end. If blocked, it may give the problems you describe. Remove valve and clean in paraffin.

Rule no 1

Don't take the oil filler cap off with the engine running.
