any - front & rear facing incar cameras - tomb

advice wanted;

Does the tinting on the rear screen & top of windscreeen affect the performance of in car cameras?

Does a 'duo' windscreen mounted camera with supposed rear vision cap ability as well, really work effectively to record following traffic? (given that it has a clear field of vision). Or will two seperate cams be better? i.e. front & rear mounted. Would this system work? Thanks

On Youtube, there are lots of examples of combined front & rear-facing videos on the Russian dash-cam section. It seems that dash-cams are very popular in Russia, and if you watch the videos, you can see why! My Roadhawk, mounted discreetly behind the rear-view mirror, does sometimes lose its GPS signal for short periods.

Don't get one with a viewing screen; that just makes them noticable. You don't want someone breaking in to steal it whilst you are parked, like they do with sat-navs, and they're so wide-angle that it really isn't critical as to where it's pointing. You get to know the correct position of the camera when it 'looks right' from the driver's seat.

I started out with a really cheap dash-cam from Amazon, but I sent it back because I couldn't get it to work properly. It gave very jerky video and sometimes stayed on 'freeze frame' for seconds at a time. What I didn't realise at the time, because there was no mention of it with the camera, is that video cameras need a 'class 10' SD card! I was using a cheaper 'class 4' because I knew no better! The Roadhawk comes with instructions to use a 'class 10' SD card.

In the event that someone 'shunts' you from behind - a forward-looking only camera will show that you were driving correctly at the time.
