Hi Folks
Just wondering what the forum thinks about repair warranties for used cars. I've had a warranty since about 2008, covering first a Meriva and then my current car, an 07 Focus that I bought in 2010. The warranty costs 21 quid a month, the excess on any claim is 50 quid and I've claimed once in seven years for a new coil on the Meriva. In that time I've probably paid out around 1500 quid and got 70 quid back.... Read more
They paid out on several occasions, and the cost of the repairs was covered in full.
But did you get back more in total than you had paid in? If yes, that turned out a wise decision. Or ....
Hi , I recently had the coil pack replaced in may on my car , a few days later the exhaust started smelling of eggs, it died off when I changed fuel brands Sainsburys to asda , but ive filled up with sainsburys again and its back.

Thanks so much. Popping it in for a check as I'm due to drive it to the deserlate part of West Wales with my family in will ask them to look at the cat (again) the fuel consumption is actually better since the coil replacement. I'll ask them to check the lamba as well. Sorry for stupid questions as I know jack about cars. I'm much better with motorbikes :) but having a family means I need a car as the four year old no longer fits in the top box :)
Not stupid at all, but I agree with skidpan!
would swopping to 19 inch wheels make anough difference to road noise to warrant the cost Read more
Fitting large wheels almost always increases road noise and worsen ride as the larger tyres will be low profile leaving less rubber between you and the road.
My son is seriously contemplating buying a beutiful example of this model . It has been privately owned and covered less than 70 K miles.
Consientiously maintained and in a lovely gold colour , its the best example I have seen.... Read more
I haven't owned one, I've owned 2 ! (glutton for punishment, me). Along with one of the older P38 types.
My second one was the only really problematic one. A few years old, and it had electrical gremlins, which was an absolute swine to trace. Symptoms were the audio/nav shutting down, random bongs going off, but the cause was eventually traced back to a poor earth in the tailgate wiper....
Any opinions on most reliable and economical Diesels MPVs from around 2006-2010?
Hi I'm new to the forum. Any advice for a non-motorhead much appreciated. I'm looking for a cheap weekend dirt wagon. For going camping / mountain biking / climbing for the weekend that will eat the miles and carry lots of gear. It just for fun so wont be keeping it clean :) old and cheap is good!... Read more
For 3k you might just get a latest shape, first face Citroen berlingo multispace or Peugeot partner tepee with the 1.6 petrol engine.
Hi, my car has developed an issue with starting when it's been left cold overnight or for long periods.
You get in the car and the time and mileometer is fine. But when you put the key in and turn all dash lights come on fine, then you turn to start and it ticks, the central locking goes crazy and the dash goes blank, resets the time and the mileometer.... Read more
I agree with RobJP - If the battery has been disconnected overnight and it can't start the next morning then the battery is goosed

I waited with abated breath for the launch of this vehicle. Having driven Skoda Superb's for years but also run traditions seven seater's (Galaxy's, 807's) I thought to myself why don't Skoda make a seven seater they will take that market by storm.
They launched the Kodiaq, I rubbed my hands with glee, I went for a viewing in the showroom. OMG.
what a disappointment. Not with the build quality, not with the prices. No Skoda have missed the point completely with their SEVEN seater. Now if they wanted to make a 4/5 seater with even more load lugging capacity with modern good looks and the occasions two kids in the back car then they've nailed it.
When the sale rep approached he directed me to the drivers seat, "no not there" I said, He showed me the engine bay, "No not there either mate". I said its a seven seater isn't it? Yes said the rep, "well show me the seven seater the rear ones then please.
That's when the fun or more the disappointment started. Tucked up in the boot space were a couple of Vafira style fold flat little seats fit for, well little people. Great I said, "how do you get into them"? what a faff. squeezing in past the middle row. Fiddling with a fold down mechanism.
I am 6' 1" and over 60 so not in the first flush of youth. My mobility is OK though. So I says, "lets see if I can get in". Nope didn't happen. Shall I climb in through the boot I though, no don't do that, that's just silly.
So, I explained to the salesman. "Sorry pal, not buying one of these ever". WHY!.
"I want a seven seater that sits seven people of adult size. In comfort. With ease of access to the rear seats. That's flexible in its seating arrangements". I want to be able to take those seven people on long journeys knowing they will be comfortable. lots of leg room, arm rests, proper seats. I want if need be to be able to load lots of luggage or things by having no seats at all (except for the front two obviously)
The salesman said, where are you going to find one like that! I pointed to my old 164K miles Merc Ambiente parted outside and said, "THERE, bye". Dissapointed I was!
Look like I am going to be sticking to the old seven seater based on a van principle, because it works.
Having said that, nobody has mentioned the also excellent Chrysler Grand Voyager. even the older ones with stow n go seats. Safety Ncap tests aside, they are excellent seven (adult) people carriers. Read more

I agree, the Mercedes Ambiente would be almost impossible to beat. I have had access to one from new since 2006 and there is nothing that can compare amongst modern vehicles. Comfort on long journeys is first class as all the seats are full size, easily accessible and comfortable. Removing the seats enabled me to move a 7 seat sofa unit & all the cushions on one occasion. I couldn't believe that it would all go in, but it did. That's why we still maintain this 12 year old beauty even though it's showing signs of wear on the bodywork, a superb piece of German engineering.
Hi, i need to buy another car but am confussed in what to get. I have between £4500 and £6000 to spend. I have three kids so it needs to be a 5 seater at the least. The main problem i have is i do hardly any miles so i want a petrol, just had a turbo fail on a diesal so looking to move away from Td. But it has to be big enough to fit everyone in for trips, eg short breaks so may need to take bikes etc. evrything of a good size seems to a TD. Any help is appreciated. Read more
Ford focus would once again fit the bill but again the powershift box is like the DSG and less the smooth at low speeds.
One off the wall is the BMW 5 series which with a few miles on the clock be had a very reasonable prices. Loads of room, great Auto gearbox.Maybe hard to find a petrol but with deisel less than petrol at the pumps now (have a look!) may be a good option. Reliable and cheep to run

Problem found....pinhole in fuel tank ,,apparently common problem in USA.....would there be anything i can use to seal....2nd hand tank in uk.....600quid......
