Replace the engine coolant temp sensor. It is giving incorrect info to the engine control unit.
My friend wrecked his catalytic converter by adding the wrong fuel.
The replacement part number is 140021HF0A. A new replacement is about £2.000.00. A Danish recycling company is offering guaranteed low mileage items with the same part number, but taken from 1.2 Micra's.... Read more
Dear OP,

While I was in the house yesterday my 64 plate Leon ran down the drive and smashed into the wall despite the handbrake being on.I have parked cars like this for 20 years without incident. There is extensive scraping to the bumper and the drivers side headlight has what looks like a stone chip as well as extensive scraping and I assume it will have to be replaced.Seat are quoting £702 for a new one.Does anyone know of any suppliers who might be a bit more reasonable? Cannot wait to see what they will charge for a replacement one of these!
I dropped into a car auction last night. I've been meaning to go to one for years, just to see what it was like. It was a general sale and seemed a bit quiet but I suspect that's the school holiday factor. It was an interesting experience, it was lower end stuff - seemed to be mainly trade ins 10 years old or more, but also some better stuff from local main dealers as well. Plenty of "sold as seen" sheds, too. It was entertaining to observe the way people behaved. Some of the local traders liked to show that they spend a lot of time there by leaning or sitting on each car as it was queueing into the auction room. Another chap insisted on turning the steering wheel of each car as it went by, I have no idea why. I also liked the fact the auction house drivers in the queue into the room just pull off with no warning, even if someone has his head stuck in the window giving the interior a once over. I heard plenty of trader talk - "that Merc's just right except no leather, nah, you can't sell a Merc with no leather". "I missed that Mondeo, that was good money for that Mondeo. Who got it? Dave? cheeky git". And so on.
Some of the prices were surprising. You could have had an early 2000s main agent trade in petrol focus, fiesta, corsa or zafira with service history and a long MOT for a song. I saw at least three very clean, good history, low owner runabouts categorised "no major faults" go through for a couple of hundred quid, barely more than scrap prices. Also a clean and tidy 2005 mondeo, one owner, full main dealer history on 110k for £750. I almost took a punt on a scruffy but one owner, full history 2004 Avensis 1.8 petrol which also went for £700. Surprising was how much older german cars went for - an example was a very scruffy 2004 BMW 320d estate which I think went for about 2k. It was a right state, budget tyres, paint scratched, dented and faded, and the sill on one side was taped up with gaffer, filthy interior. ... Read more

Tall order I know but let's have a go. My sister who lives at the end of a rough track in a very hilly part of Italy needs to buy (in the UK) the above?
I have told her it's mad but she is where she is.... Read more
I'm sure she's aware, but being UK sourced she'll doubtless need to officially import it, and pay the appropriate taxes, if Italy is her permanent residence. Here in Austria, the rules state that when you import a car, it should be re-registered within a month, although it hasn't really been policed until recently. There has been a crackdown on permanent residents failing to re-register cars, and the finance police (yes, they exist here!) can impose hefty fines. A lot of ex-pats put great effort into avoiding re-registering and paying taxes, but it's really much easier to do it properly.
The taxes can make it marginal whether it's worth importing an older car, although I agree that used car prices seem somewhat higher.

I bought a car in April for approx 6000. After 11 weeks and 6500 miles I had a flickering oil warning light whilst on the motorway. As there was no emergency, I carried onto the next service station which was approx 6 miles. I checked the oil which was fine, started the engine, there was no warning light so continued on the journey. A short distance later, the warning light came back on, this time with a banghing from the engine. I pulled onto the hard shoulder and called recovery. I've since found out the oil pump failed and the small engine needs replaced at a cost of approx £5000. I sent the details to the dealer who to be honest didn't want to know. I've followed the process via the consumer rights website and today received a letter stating that as I did not pull onto the hard shoulder immediately as per the owners guide I am responsible for the damage through negligence.
I followed the guidence of the highway code to the letter (rule 270). Can this be considered negligence on my part?
I am now completing the forms on moneyclaim.gov.uk to take the matter further. Read more
I fail to see how proceeding along a motorway with an engine about to sieze is safer than pulling over to the hard shoulder and getting all passengers out the car and on to the embankment to safety.
An engine locking up can have very dramatic results.
Hey all,
When cold and going over bumps my car has a louder noise then normal coming from the front. It seems to be less prominent when the car is warmed up (Not sure if linked) I can't seem to replicate the noise if I bounce the car however.... Read more
