Hi. The AC in my Xsara Picasso blows hot air. The AC was checked and works fine, the specialist said it's an electrical problem. It happened twice before in 18 months, the first time it was fixed working underneeth the dash and the second was "accidentally" fixed while the electrician was working on the fuse box underneeth the hood.
I would like to solve it for good, and don't seem to find an expert not from the official service, which would cost a fortune.... Read more
Obviously all of these contribute to the effects of a journey on skeletal problems (back etc), even I understand that.
However, I am not sure about the level of effect of suspension in relation to others. The car I am looking at is a A class W169 ( I know not universally popular) manual 2011.... Read more

Hi.
I have a 2006 Mondeo ST 2.2 tdci and was driving yesterday and all of a sudden heard a Big Bang from the engine, since then I can hear a whistling noise, there's no power/ acceleration and when I do try to press the accelerator pedal it's jerking/ spluttering.
Didn't know if the Turbo has blown or maybe a pipe has split?
Thanks Read more
Could be either. Or something else, possibly.
If you don't know what you're doing under the bonnet the only way to find out is by getting it into a garage though.
Hi. My girlfriend and I have decided to drive to Spain. We're hoping to catch the ferry from Dover to Dunkirk and then drive to Murcia in Spain. We want to avoid Paris itself (but may be prepared to take the perifierique). Neither of us have driven this distance before.
Can anyone tell me how many miles we can realisitically expect to cover each day without overdoing it (ie being able to have a few hours to ourselves in the evenings and a stop for lunch)?... Read more
Take a crossing to Cherbourg and stop off to see the WWII beaches & Bayeux tapestry, then go via Le Mans to Poitiers and see Futurescope, (probably one night stop en route), continue south and see Cahors (and others) along the former N20 continue to Toulouse & Andorra (supposed to be cheap petrol there!) but avoid Barcelona (too many shananigans with tourist cars) ... return to take in Millau bridge then head back to Caen or Le Havre for the return crossing.
Rather than worry about daly maximum drives, look at your total trip duration, allocate time for Murcia and then split the remaining days for the journey, say 3 nights en route each way, some days will be more driving others more sightseeing. At a guess 300 miles max on non motorways or 500 on motorways, my old AA book says expect an average of 30-35 mph on single carriageway roads, experience tells me this is a good guide after allowing for towns etc. Whatever you do don't exceed the speed limit (by much if at all) as the police in France are much stricter these days, on the spot fines (1st hand experience 150kph on motorway) or vehicle confiscation are common dependant on speed above the limit. Also check rules for radar detection and sat nav, vehicle confiscation is a threat here too....
Hi, I've just repaired my radio finally, having bought the vehicle 18 months ago with radio burnt out.

Hi there
I see there a few threads stating the problems people are having wih the eac fail in the duratec engined ford fiesta. I replaced the MAF sensor, with no difference. I can not afford to run up and down to the dealerships to find answers. Was there a solution besides replacing every electronic part or no?
Thanks in advance all the way from South africa!

Eac fail is usually a fault with the electronic throttle body.Check the connector to it and also the multi pin connector that runs around the front of the engine, above gearbox.A poor battery can also cause problems with throttle body, even if there are no starting issues.
New? Demonstrator? Local independent for older car? Local paper for private deal? I've done the lot but can't really work out which is best. New car you get the warranty but take a hit on depreciation etc etc. right down to bangernomics. Read more
Agreed, Alan - and it can also depend on the type of car you're looking for.
VAG cars and other German makes, and Minis, hold their value well and it can make sense to buy new. But Fiats and most French cars (because of dounts about long-term reliability) and most Fords and Vauxhalls (because there are lots of fleet sales and therefore plenty about secondhand) lose value quickly and there are bargains to be had with, say, 1 to 3 year old cars.
