What are the purpose of these yellow ribbons? There are two, one by each bootlid hinge. The thin metal strip is severed in each one. They are about 2 inches long. They don't seem to do anything. They are damaged
Would they be affecting my remote locking, as my keys are good, but they don't work on the remote locking... Read more
remote locking now sorted. It wasn't the amp, it was a broken wire in the black rubber loom by the bootlid hinge! soldered back together, now all is fine!

Just wondering when I do my oil changes if I really need to turn the filter to 20nm? As I have no tools to click so give it my best guess!
Is this a spin on or a cartridge filter?
If a spin on then hand tighten only. Do not use any wrench....

My electric fan seems to either come on, as soon as i stop at traffic lights

The engine driven fan may be turning ok,but you need to see if the coupling locks up when engine reaches the reqd temp. This will increase the air flow drag through the rad.
I had fully comprehensive insurance on my car and although I had an accident and the car was scrapped I continued paying the insurance because I thought that the third party insurance cover (to drive other cars) would still exist. I was recently pulled over by a police office and was told that because the car had been scrapped, technically (although I was paying it) the police didn't exist. The office took the car to the pound and told me that I would get the 6 penalty points and a £300 fine.
About a month ago I called a solicitor that was an expert in this field (I can't remember who it was) to discuss and for them to represent me when I went to court to dispute this. I was told that in 9 cases out of 10 such as this because the agreement is between me and the insurance company (they didn't know the car had been scrapped), technically I was covered and the police officer can't affect that agreement. The solicitor went on to explain that unless the insurance company had terms and conditions that specifically stated that the policy was cancelled after the car was scrapped, I was legally covered.
The solicitor said in the worst case scenario (if the insurance company did exclude this in their terms and conditions) that if I could prove that I thought I was covered at the, I still have a case to appeal the punishment (obviously I thought I was covered or I wouldn't have kept paying).
If anyone could help and advise me on my issue, I would be very grateful.

Some insurers don't cancel a policy on a write-off - mine didn't after a fault write-off, they just suspended it for the two months it took me to order a new one and then continued the policy on the new car.
But being suspended, I would have assumed that the driving other cars cover was suspended as well.
Great guide from Sainsbury's Bank to buying a new car. Although the recent drop in Diesel prices tell a different story...

Indeed - given how the higher harmful effects of on health of diesel-powered vehicles has now been very publicly highlighted, I personally can't see a future (at least in the EU) for it for ordinary cars - with legislators now turning against diesel big time, forcing manufacturers to make their cars even more complex (as bazza says) and petrol engine technologies (e.g. small turbo varieties), petrol hybrids and (eventually) fuel cell/full electric [battery] technology coming good, only those wanting to haul heavy loads will be needing to use diesel.
The days of people (erroneously, in my view) buying diesel-engined cars when doing less than 20,000 - 25,000 miles p.a. because they think they'll 'save money' by virtue of just higher mpg figures is soon to be over.
OK,

The first thing you have to prove is that there is something wrong with it. A light being on doesn't really prove that - you need something which proves it still has a major fault (engineer's report etc.).
You also shouldn't really use it. If you are arguing that it is not fit for purpose then - as the purpose of a car is to transport you from A to B - if you continue doing that with it then you case is weakened....

Good quality ones !
Seriously though, buy a decent brand. Far too many people buy really cheap 'ditchfinder' (usually unheard of chinese tyre makes), and are then surprised when their roadholding, cornering and comfort levels go to hell. If the tyres that have been on from new were good, and have lasted well, then go for the same again....
