Does anyone know what would cause the vacuum pump to fail for a second time?

I was travelling from Kent to Manchester and the engine lost complete power and wouldn't even turn over. Once taken to a garage it turned out the vacuum pump had melted causing extensive damage to the engine. Everything was repaired and a new PIERBURG vacuum pump was installed. The car was then run for 90 miles / 1hr 45mins, upon which the new vacuum pump failed.

The garage has checked and there is an oil feed to the pump. The garage doesn't seem to know what the issue is I am over £1000 down with a car that won't run and not sure where to go from here.

Can anyone help?
