If you can't get the radio out, then the option is to take the car and Id to a main dealer and order a data card ,which will provide a radio code ,provided the radio is original out the factory.

My car will not start, when I turn the key it makes no noise at all, no clicking etc. Electrics are working, lights radio, heater fan etc but it won't start. No warnings given its worked fine up till now. It did have starter motor and ring gear replaced about 9 months ago but all has worked well until now. Any ideas?

For radios whose Serial Number begins with an "M", followed by a six digit number, you can use the following link to work out what your Keycode should be:

Railroad.

Since you say it's a GTi I am assuming your car is a petrol. Check around the manifold for vacuum leaks, and ensure that the dipstick is correctly seated, as the crankcase has a minor vacuum at idle on these engines. Find someone with VCDS to help you and specifically to check the short term and long term fuel trim values. As I said, an intake air leak is a likely cause of your problem so make sure there aren't any.

Re. my Audi A6, 1.8T petrol, 16 years old, well looked after, 120k mileage, carefully driven.
Summer check at garage, was told clutch is slipping,
(price quoted: clutch @ flywheel at £700 total, which is less then 2 other local garages I asked).
I have not noticed the clutch slipping so far, only twice recently when parking on a steep hill had I smelled it.

Got car back from garage without the repair as I need to consider if it's still economical to have done. The car now stinks of burnt clutch!

Did a road test, 3rd/4th gear. rev up....pulls away nicely,in line with revs. Same on handbrake stop/start, it doesn't rev up/slip - and will start to stall in 3rd gear with handbrake engaged.... Read more

Thank you all for your replies.

The garage I used has been giving me very good and reliable service over several years, that's why I am so confused between what I was told/advised by them and my own experience with my car as described in my initial posting. Today I did a 40 mile trip, city driving, lots of stop starts, hill parking/handbrake and reversing up hill, dual carriage way - accelerated the car to 80 miles in 4th gear...no slipping, no decline or delay in acceleration either....

When your dad took out the policy, there would almost certainly have been a question about 'Are you the owner / registered keeper of the vehicle '

I suggest your father looks at the insurance paperwork, to see if there was, and what his answer was. (just checked on my policy paperwork, my own 'vehicle details' section asks if I am the registered keeper / registered owner)....

Afternoon all,

I am researching on behalf of a colleague at work. He has recently had work done on his Fiesta and the radio now requires a code. We have found a serial number - M034095 but he is understandably a bit miffed at the prospect of having to fork out for a code.. I don't suppose anybody would be able to lend a hand? ... Read more

Attempted battery change DIY style. I checked for written instructions before commencing and I've done this once before, however, I connected the battery the wrong way round and sparks flew.

I connected the battery correctly and the car starts and drives fine. However some electrics have gone now.

Audio, windows, internal lights, central locking.

What have I broken and what do I need to do to fix it?

New battery is a premium Exide with 540 cold crank start.

Any help much appreciated. J. Read more
