My 63 plate VW Golf 1.6 tdi SE had a small recent fault; upon entering my local petrol station the petrol cap refused to open, a quick search on google revelead a known VW fault. The following day took it to VW as under new car warranty. Dealer at this stage was helpfull and curteous and rapidly diagnosed the issue as a small plastic component that had expanded in the heat and as a consequence was causing the filler cap to not release, the actuator was OK.
Go the car back and all is well, however on closer inspection the dealer had damaged the paintwork around filler cap. Deealer acknowledges problem and booked the car in again at thier expense for a "smart repair".... Read more

Hi everyone, sorry if. This has been covered somewhere else.
Our Central locking appears to be dying, or at least that's what it sounds like. If I try locking it from the drivers door, it does it very slowly and quietly (sounds like old Walkmans who's battery was failing). The passenger door just locks and reopens immediately, like one of the doors has been left open, and again it's very quiet and slow.
Any ideas/ advice/ solutions greatly received
Thanks in advance. Read more
Problems with the door lock/actuator mechanisms are common on these .Easy to replace ,but not cheap if using new parts.Likely to be both front doors in trouble.Alternatively pull the fuse and use the system manually
Hi need to remove front drivers seat and try and find out why back rest tilt is becomming increasingly difficult to operate ie becoming stiffer. There is an air bag in the bolster, what is the correct procedure to isolate, is it as simple a disconnecting the battery. Advice most welcome. Thank you. Read more

My local Renault dealer quotes me part exchange using CAP....it suits him because it seem that valuation are a lot lower than Glasses. Want is the point of Glasses if dealers pick and choose to suite themselves ? My Yaris is valued at £5500 with CAP and 6100 with glasses .... !!! Needless to say I will not be getting a Renault soon. With trhe seller making £2000 on my Yaris and another £2000 on a new Renault....I think they are taking the micky !!! Read more
By the way, the dealer will just send your car to auction, unless it is in good enough nick to sell as an approved car.

Okay, I know the newspaper doesn't have the best reputation, but I saw this article:

Why not introduce a new licence endorsement that says that for 2 years your own car is confiscated and the only motor vehicle you're allowed to drive is a single-cylinder 500cc diesel Aixam, entirely coloured in fluorescent yellow & pink stripes?
That should slow him down at least a bit, and give early-warning to others to get out of his way, whilst still allowing him to travel to workplaces not served by public transport.
And the money he saves in fuel costs can help pay off his debts sooner. Read more

Compost Corner's recent posts are spot on - the Forester XT is a great car! I also rather like the fact that Forester ownership is an exclusive club. I have friends with Audi's who I know are secretively jealous of my Subaru, particlularly when they have travelled in it - most generally make complimentary remarks, particularly about the performance. But they are badge snobs and would find it difficult to come to terms with owning a car with a badge that is generally little recognised.
The SJ series Forester XT owners I have met (not many I will admit) are very positive about their cars and all shared the opinion that they would not change their Forester for anything else. My local dealer is starting to see a lot of interest from Range Rover owners and has recently taken 3 of them in part exchange for new XT's. That says it all really - substance over style.
