Although well out of the way of any impact, I've been following the heathrow expansion saga on the news.
What I've found mind-bendingly hypocritical is the way we are beaten regularly with the emissions stick, yet a third runway is a 'good' thing. I don't have the figures but I'm guessing all those extra flights don't spout fresh air out the engines.... Read more

Hope this helps someone else just today I have had a problem with my front washer's not working just a few bubbles of water coming out and all the water going out of the rear window jets when the washer stalk was operated this should not happen water should only exit rear jets when the button on the end of the stalk is turned forward the motor was working normally so after trying other things I found the way to sort it was by disconnecting the supply tube at the first joint by the edge of the bonnet and squeezing tightly together whilst operating the stalk to wash position which built up pressure and all worked normally again after reconnecting someone suggested the car need to go on a code reader and it could be the comms unit on the steering column all expensive ways if you have trouble please try this first

I have never been able to understand why Audis, Skodas and SEATs have 3 years of free breakdown cover from new, but Volkswagens only one, despite otherwise identical 3-year warranties.
I eventually got round to sending VW an E-mail to ask the question. Someone rang me last week and gave what he thought was an explanation. He said that VW try to match their competitors, which are apparently Ford and Vauxhall, and as they only give one year, so do VW. I asked him who he thought Skoda's competition is, but that wasn't in his script. He just said that each part of the VW Group makes its own decisions.... Read more
Thinking about it, the Ceed is the biggest estate that Kia do as there isn't an Optima estate but the i30 estate doesn't need to be ass big as Hyundai have the i40 estate above it.
The i40 estate has no more space than a i30 or Ceed. Its just more stylish and expensive....
Indeed, KB. And there are also a lot of people made redundant in middle age during the recession who haven't found work since and may live for another 30-40 years.
I can see an increasing number of people going for equity release: a tempting way out of trouble although the providers (the usual insurance suspects) charge huge rates of compound interest so bang goes much of the kids' inheritance.
do the chip express engine tuning actually work Read more
Never heard of chip express, though a nice bagful cooked in proper lard with a generous dash of salt (not seasoning, thats for telly cooks) and vinegar would go down a treat just now.
Proper remapping can make a vehicle nicer to drive, even gently, but the vehicle might need to be driven with more mechanical sympathy afterwards for a long service life....
Hi there.. I have a big dilemma.. I own a Honda CR-V 2.0 Petrol, Life Style with 36000 km on clock (a lot of nice equimpent like Xeonon, Alcantara seats, etc,tc..) . I keep this car in the garage when is not driven.

Let's face it - your more likely to get on first name terms with a Citroen mechanic than you ever will with Honda! My Mk 1 CRV is still on the go at 185,000 miles with little more than routine servicing, tyres, new battery at 160k, brake pads, exhaust. It's never broken down on me except for a tyre blowing - and that was a bolt that went through the tyre! Plus, it's never failed an MOT.
Hi all,
I am considering buying a mitsubishi pinin (2003) seems goid value and fit for what I need. I have seen that it only got a 3 star safety rating by ncap. All reviews I have read don't seem to think this is a negative, but I would have thought 4 stars would be a minimum ... I have 2 children and won't be purchasing something that wasn't as safe as it's rivals. Am I missing something? Was 3 stars standard around that time? ... Read more
Didn't NCAP also change how they rated cars (made the tests more stringent), i.e. a 3 star rating then would, say, only merit a 1 or 2 today? If not, surely by now (given year-on-year safety improvements) a car would've got 100% across the board?

A mate of mine is buying a new car but they don't do it in the colour he wants so have offered him the opportunity to vinyl wrap the car ) it's a BMW, work to be done via the dealer).
Are there any downsides to this? Does the original paintwork retain its integrity and are there any issues with the vinyl 'coming off'?... Read more
Its also a bit like buying a new car and then fitting a set of seat covers to it. All you are doing it saving a set of pristine seats for the next owner. You are not getting the benefit of them yourself.
Or a way of not having to spend more money on a seat re-trim if you accidentally tear the fabric.
Carpet mats and load protectors are variations on a theme.
Was stationary and moved gear lever into tiptonic position, something seems to have failed in lever operation, lever became stuck in tip position and all the red gear positions appear together on the dash display. I managed to get the lever back to the normal drive neutral park position.
Tried disconnecting the battery to see if the dash display would correct itself but NO... Read more
