do the chip express engine tuning actually work

Read rhe Vauxhall and Chevrolet forums, assuming it is a diesel you have.

Cost to save a bit of fuel ? or cost to improve performance.

If they worked that well they would be original equipment..

Think about it for a moment.

Vauxhall (GM) spend countless millions developing engines etc getting them to work as efficiently and reliably as possible.

Chip Express (and other similar companies) have a laptop and a fancy website and claim to improve what the manufacturer does.

If they were that good either the manufacturer would sack their entire R & D section and buy their chips or sack the R & D department and employ the man with his laptop.

But whilst they may be able to get more power from your engine (at the risk of premature failure since more stress will be placed on engine and transmission components) they will not be able to improve your economy. The only way to do that is to drive better or slower.

Never heard of chip express, though a nice bagful cooked in proper lard with a generous dash of salt (not seasoning, thats for telly cooks) and vinegar would go down a treat just now.

Proper remapping can make a vehicle nicer to drive, even gently, but the vehicle might need to be driven with more mechanical sympathy afterwards for a long service life.

Couple of points, if under warranty and the dealer/maker discover the modification you can kiss warranty goodbye, similarly you should inform your insurer who may or may not want to know.

What improvements if any are you after.
