Hi all. I have the radio code but when I enter it it just says on the viewer and the radio does not open. Any ideas? The code is ok as I have used it before. I had to remove the radio because I had heater problems. Thanks. jonathan123. Read more
I didn't know you had to enter 5 to establish the code. It has always come on before without doing that, BUT! Wow. Thanks guys, it all works now. Ignorance is no excuse. The old saying "When all else fails read the instructions" comes to mind. Thanks again. jonathan.
hi there,
My Toyota Avensis 2011 2.0 D4d Estate leaves blue smoke when moving off in 1st & 2nd gear and when the car is not moving, the invisible smoke smell is very chemical smelling and intolerable, it creates like burning sensation in lungs, I have only had this car for 4 months & my combined mpg has gone from 45MPG down to 35mpg. I have noticed the engine has become very slightly noisy as well, little rattling noise like diesel Skoda octavia. The car has 80,000 miles on clock and still has 5 year Manufacturer warranty. Whats worrying is that full service was done at 69,000 miles, so why are there these issues with the car?
Can someone guide me if its time to replace the dpf? The blue white smoke, horrible smoke smell and constantly low MPG.. do all these add up to some fault or am i just paranoid??... Read more
You may want to check the small print on the warranty too. It could be that it only applies to the original owner and is not transferable. If you're a taxi driver you probably do mainly short stop/start journeys. In that case the DPF will block up quite quickly and regenerations may not happen as they should. A new DPF could be required.

What's your estimate of a fair price for £45 MOT test + oil & filter change + same-day retest due to faulty light bulb on rear plate?
The final £140 bill seemed a bit steep. Light bulb costs pennies and takes a minute to change. Read more
I have changed a lightbulb on a mark 1 Yaris. Took me - first time ever on the car - about 20 minutes. Very fiddly - and if it's the side by the battery, i's easier to remove teh battery if you have big hands.

I just bought a this car Ford fiesta v reg (year 1999) with 127000 miles millage, for £300 only. The car drives good. But the problem is this that when it's CAM belt got changed, I don't know. As I do not have history of this car. The cost to change the cam belt is £250. What do you people think that can this car do 127000 miles millage without changing the CAM belt even for single time? Because If the CAM belt got changed even single time, then I think I can drive till at least 140000 miles millage.
Also Is it accident risk, if my CAM belt gets broken during drive?... Read more
The belt could have been changed a year or so ago? Without evidence, no one will know.
Keep going with the car as is for now....
I am about to replace the rear axle bushes on my 207 but I'm not sure at what angle the bushes should be fitted as they are not uniform but have a moulded in 'snubber' and some voids in the rubber. Does anyone know ? Read more
There's a couple of pips on the bush,
they line up with a "square" slot on the carrier.
A colleague at work checked out a rattling sound from our exhaust, occurring when we first pull away. He's of the opinion it may be a loose part of exhaust from the catalytic converter back. He suggested a new one may be needed but to my laymans ear a loose one may mean a new bracket?? He mentioned if a new one is required it can only be a new KIA make part?? despite that after contacting KIA, their sales person said no part was available at their suppliers but a new part from any make would be possible and repaired at other garages. We hope to travel to Wales this weekend but concerned this has to be repaired before we leave. Could you please advise. Read more
Perhaps it is a heat shield. These are usually made of pressed aluminium and can come loose from their fittings and rattle on the exhaust system.
Hi,
My Clio won't start. Immobiliser is turning off with key and turns over engine. No spark. Tried changing the TDC sensor no change. Tested power to 3 wire plug to coil and nothing on any terminal. Fuel pumps to inlet rail.
I've noticed that ABS light and Service light goes off when ignition turns on, along with immobiliser light. When cranking the immobiliser light stays off but ABS & Service light come on. It may always have done that, not sure if it indicates anything.
Checked the relay connections on nearside wing, seem ok, sprayed with contact clean.
Rummaged about all the cables I can access but not tested any specifically as no wiring diagram.
Once, I had disconnected battery for several minutes and then reconnected and it still didn't start, but I then recoded radio and clock, and it started. I turned the car on and off several times ok, but in the morning tried again and no start. Doing the battery disconnect and radio code made no difference. It has not run since.
Sorry for long intro, but its been that sort of job and internet search seems to be bogged down with immobiliser lights flashing or no fuel.
Any ideas on where to try next?

RESOLVED...
Thanks everyone - it turned out to be a thin green wire in the loom that runs to the fuse box, a break in it where it is in a big bundle running along just above the gearbox to the front of the car. When I joggled it about there was a clicking from the relay which is housed under the plastic cover for the fuses (along with the other 2 identical relays)....
Hi, Looking for advice please. Volvo V40 D2 is only at 7k miles after 12 months but the front tyres (continental) are already down to 3mm even wear. Would this be typical for this make of tyre or could it point to an alignment issue?
Many thanks Read more
I wonder if the tyres and wheels came from another car, swapped for any one of dozens of reasons, hopefully not including clocking.
I could understand the fronts being down to 3mm at 7k if driven hard, but the rears i would have expected to still be between 6 and 7mm.
Hi I parked my car on or at Polegate Railway station and received a Fine from CIVIL ENFORCEMENT LTD on the 22/04/2015 This is the letter I wrote to them. I am sure they havent wread it at all. Allthey want is money! I believe this is a con.

Good advice from daveyjp. Go through the appeals procedure. I have used it successfully, even when some forum members advised me to 'pay up and move on'. Not when a principle is at stake. It is a long drawn out process but the Parking Adjudicator takes a sensible and reasonable view of the circumstances. From what you describe it seems a comedy of errors combined with a failure of technology. Most reasonable people would take your point and drop the matter. However the 'car parking sharks' are not reasonable. They only want your money and nothing else interests them at all. You will probably find that when challenged with determination they will back off. They will probably let you get all the way to the adjudication and then decide to concede, so stick at it. Keep us posted on the result and good luck.

Thanks all. I will check the ratchet first. A big thanks
