Hi There. I have only had this van a week and starting it is taking longer and longer. Ive replaced the glow plugs, coolant sensor and just now the camshaft sensor. I have no engine management light on. The van has plenty of crank speed and sounds like its going to fire but doesnt. It can take a good few minutes to start. Smoke is being emitted whilst cranking. Once started it drives fine althouigh it lacks power in low revs?? It does start quicker when engine is warm. Any ideas? Thank you Read more
Hi folks. My car has done 160000 miles. Regularly serviced. The last week I've noticed struggling in first gear to get anywhere! Lack of power in general, but once in top gear it seems ok. Also at idle when first started in morning, the idle seems lumpy, not smooth. Sorry I couldn't be more technical! Cheers Read more
Ended up blocking the efr,and car is running fine now
I see the A1(M) around my way is now sprinkled with lots of coppers 'spy' cars - the jam sandwich is no more.
What I find rather incongruous is that they are all brand new Mercedes, BMW and Audis. Austerity obviously doesn't apply to this lot. Bleating about cuts is one thing, but rolling out in a car most of us can't afford (as a private car anyway) sticks in the throat.... Read more
When production of the SD1 was ending, the Met and one or two other police forces bought up some end-of the-line models to keep their fleets stocked up for a year or two, so that there were one or two E-platers in police livery. Many of the models were in Vanden Plas EFi spec, since the lowlier models had already been snapped up elsewhere.
An unofficial order from senior traffic officers to police drivers was to simulate a manual winding action and open the electric windows in a jerky manner when dealing with a member of the public from within the car, so that Joe Public would not suspect that the BiBs were apparently being spoilt with cars fitted with such luxury accoutrements! (Waste of taxpayers' money, priorities all wrong, they went on bikes in my day, etc. - see earlier postings...)
Hi
I bought a car from a used car dealer. When we negotiated price I haggled and we agreed £200 less than the windscreen price.... Read more
"Basically, if you paid around CAP/Glasses Trade or similar the seller will have a strong argument to suggest you knew how you were buying it and knew the terms and it was priced accordingly."
Maybe, but that won't make the OP into a trader.

Even though the original warranty may have expired, surely a 2011 car bought from a main dealer would have come with some warranty extension?

Hi,
I'm looking to purchase a new Ford Mondeo in the UK for temporary personal export to Europe. I'm looking to buy the Titanium X version with the Dynamic Adaptive LED Headlights.... Read more
There may be a setting in the on-dash menu to adapt for left drive.Dont think replacing headlights is an option as they are probably very expensive.Eg,Audi led headlights are around £1500......each!
Hi HJ.
My other half is looking to buy a horsebox. One she has seen is a Mercedes 814.... Read more
That's getting on a bit now, but at the time it was probably the highest quality light lorry you could buy, over engineered as only an MB can, a company director i know well had no end of trouble with other makes at the time, i pointed him at 814's and they ended up with a small fleet of them which gave sterling service for many years.
If it's been looked after well (but does anyone look after horse boxes properly?) then it should go on for years if the tin worm hasn't got to it....
Keeps jumping out of top gear, is this an easy repair or will it be very expensive. Read more
If its a conventional 5 speed gearbox, 5th gear can be accessed without removing the box by removing the end plate. No gearbox repairs are cheap unless you can do it yourself but if 5th can be repaired in situ it will be a lot cheaper than having to take it out.
My wife's SLK 350 had a flat battery after only 2 weeks in garage, (Holidays) all appeared to be switched off, car locked ( Locks itselfr after a few minutes anyway ) had a new battery 23 months ago from Halfords (£123!). Halfords have tested the battery and it's OK. A recent damage repair necessitated replacement of the front bumper, grill and headlight assembly. Previously no problem being left in garage for 3 weeks! Any ideas welcome. Read more
Can't see any connection to the front body repair. No real issues with this model with battery drain problems.I assume this is a W171 type.Never been a great fan of halfords batteries. How did they test it?Unless it has been fully recharged correctly ,I suspect you will have further problems.
These type of mechanics are the reason I hate dealing with them. They've told me that the valve seats are shot (without even looking) and that the engine has to be stripped down to see the problem. Add that cost to the repair and theyve said that it will cost more than is economically viable. I am totally cheesed off. I have asked many mechanics, mobile and in garages in my area and they basically cant be bothered. I am astounded.
