This job is very awkward. The thermostat housing is in 2 parts. The main body is pressed into the rear of the water pump housing and attached to the engine block.the water outlet part is bolted to this.It is really an underneath job,and even then it is tricky.Removing the inlet manifold makes the job a lot easier but is more work.

Check that the timing belt has been set in the correct position. Have the vacuum pipes been put back on correctly? Any leaks in them? Have the oil feed pipes to the turbo been replaced/cleaned out as lack of oil feed is the usual reason why the turbo fails?

Hi .just aquired this car .being only used to much older car's where everything is manually operated ..ie windows wipers .water etc

Anyway it seems that to spray water onto the windscreen it wants to start swiping the windscreen before it's even wet which is ridiculous and it carries on for ages and I think after all of 12 or whatever years of this it has totally ruined it .... Read more

I agree. Get a new windscreen.

I had those editions of the Focus and it annoyed me. You should be able to squirt enough wash onto the screen and then engage the wipers. What has happened is that dirt, grit and small stones have accumulated along the wiper blades. They are against the screen and make a perefect ledge for this debris to rest on. As you've squirted the screenwash the wipers start automatically to wipe across the screen. Not enough water to aid the blades properly so dry patches are wiped across with this dirt and grit which scratches the screen. Over time, you have no option but to replace....

Am after suggestions on high mileage cars which are cheap to run i.e. parts and labour cost.

At the moment am driving a toyota corolla verso which has been quiet reliable, only problem is on the two occasions i have had some issues the parts and labour cost we quiet expensive.Prior to the verso i had an astra which i would say had medium reliability but at least the parts and labour cost were manageable. So i finally come to the conclusion that be it highly reliable car or not there will be problems, hence my question.Any suggestions? Our Yaris Hybrid is coming up to 2 years old now and still serving our needs just about (a bit of extra space could sometimes be useful). The dealer phoned today saying they could put us in a new Yaris for the same monthly payments.

I am slightly tempted, but would want to take along some prices from some internet brokers to try and fry the best deal. Does anyone have any experience of whether dealers will match the prices from brokers such as Drive the Deal? I have always managed to negotiate some discount, but never huge amounts, so am wondering if I might be able to lower the monthly payments (I'm on a PCP).

Of course my brain is telling me to stick with this car, but for the same outlay each month, the only consideration would be entering into a new PCP contract,Munich doesn't concern me and if I do keep this Yaris I would probably buy another Toyota in a years time.

I could also try to negotiate an Auris for a similar monthly sum, depends how brave I'm feeling! I may pop in to the dealer after I have taken a funeral tomorrow morning! Read more

"Avant, your daughter seems to enjoy changing her cars! Is this a knock-on effect of the PCP system, making it easy for dealers to tempt owners to change, maybe more often than they otherwise would?"

As always, finance is of course a vital consideration in buying cars but it isn't the only one. Olivia is a nanny who has great expertise in child care but none in car mechanics: she often has small children in her car and above all it needs to be reliable. ...

I'd forgotten the Kia Ceed. According to the What Car review it has 528 litres (seats up) which is about the same as the Mondeo without its excessive overall length. Worth a look if it's big enough for you.
