I use an ipad, and this site is almost unusable. It took me five tries to login. Characters get lost. Pages load slowly, due to an absurd number of adverts. Pages scroll horribly slowly, and often crash. Typing a reply is horrible, for some reason editing is harder than on other forums. Selecting text is impossible. Try and edit a word and it is selected and must be retyped in full. And a logon does not last long, and needs to be redone. Return to the site and the logon is not remembered, unlike all other forums. If this site is ever updated, someone needs to test it on mobile devices. I sometimes think using this site is so hard it is not worth the trouble. It is truly horrible to use. Read more
An elderly neighbour has a 4 year old Volvo S60 Diesel, due to illness the car is rarely used. I have been driving it weekly to try and keep the battery charged, however in recent weeks even after a 25 mile main road drive when I stop the car & switch off the ignition I notice the dashboard display message " LOW BATTERY !". I am starting to suspect the battery has been degraded ( meaning it no longer holds a full charge) due to lack of use/charge.
here is my question If I change the battery will I need a battery saver device to prevent the car ECU/Radio/ALARM etc losing their settings ?... Read more
Thank you for your replies, for elekie & a/c doctor, I have checked the owners workshop manual ( downloaded a 392 page copy !) It states that the key fob has a seperate message when the key fob battery is "low ""Low battery in remote please change batteries"
0 LowI have one advisory item, 'nearside front(rear) Suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated but not resulting in excessive movement'
Obviously, by definition, it is advisory. I would be interested in opinions on whether or not it would be better to get it done, and why.... Read more
Thank you everyone for very helpful posts which have given me the benefit of your experiences.
Contacted my garage, which I trust, today. They have said it was something for them to 'keep an eye on'. Reading how people have had the same advisories year on year has lessened my concern. Also, which I should have done straight away, they have clarified how they see it....
Can someone please help me?
My Ford Focus won't start at all. It's just making a clicking sound which seems to be coming from the left of the engine (as I'm sitting in the car). It's been doing the clicking noise intermittently for a few weeks but has always started. Today it's a no go :-( All the engine lights, radio etc work, but it's just not starting. ... Read more
Try jumping it from another car or make sure your battery is load tested, they will still read 12v when flat.

We need a car that's powerful enough to do the job , but small enough to be used as a run about when we return home. Preferably a cabriolet. Am I being too picky or is the answer to my dreams waiting on a forecourt, any constructive advice much appreciated Read more
"We've just retired and want to tour the continent with a two birth (sic) caravan.....Preferably a cabriolet."
If Mrs OP is expecting twins, they'll need a mighty big caravan for all that obstetric equipment....... :)
The car smokes on cold start. Injectors and compression are both good. No codes. Three mechanics have not been able to find the problem, I would be grateful if anyone has any advice. Read more
There's a pre heat period & a after glow period on your heater plugs to eliminate the problems with poor idling when cold & black smoke. Get your mechanic to check out the after glow period Hth Regards micky-Bo
We have a 21-year-old Pajero; it is 1.9 metres tall. For years we have been driving it into the car park of our local Lidl at Horley, Surrey. However the shop was closed for refurbishment for about three months - and has now reopened. The builders have done a great job - everything is bright and new and the shop roof no longer leaks in heavy rain. However: the builders have also improved the car park. In doing so, they have hung bars on chains at the entrance and exit - with a warning on the bars that the height is 1.8 metres. It's not the end of the world - but it is vexing ... some klutz has managed to put the car park out of bounds to most people who drive a large 4 x 4, and probably some people carriers too. Read more

Could be that you have a leak in the turbo to manifold pipes or a hole in the intercooler.
Currently in Israel and spending time with some friends who bought a second hand Kia Sportage a few months ago. It is now about three months out of warranty and the engine had died. From what I understand, the engine has been 'surging' a bit when on the highway and this week the engine would lose power and stop. It would restart but when engaging gear the car move a bit (less than a few metres) and it would stop again.
They took it to their mechanic who seems flummoxed and his comment is something along the lines of "the crankshaft and camshaft are not in synch". This sounds like a timing issue, but do the symptoms bear this out? I thought maybe more of a fueling system problem??... Read more
Thanks. I will pass the word on.
