Hi All,

I had a problem with my Gen2 2006 Prius, water getting into the spare tyre well, and more alarmingly, into the Aux battery (12v) well - about halfway up in both instances.... Read more

Doesn't matter what the highways agency says - their estimates are a work of fiction.

They put signs on the a1(m) telling us the roadworks will last until Feb, then March, then this was changed to April. Now the signs (like the workforce!) have disappeared....

Posted in Technical but no response.

Currently in Israel and spending time with some friends who bought a second hand Kia Sportage a few months ago. It is now about three months out of warranty and the engine had died. From what I understand, the engine has been 'surging' a bit when on the highway and this week the engine would lose power and stop. It would restart but when engaging gear the car move a bit (less than a few metres) and it would stop again.... Read more

Thanks. I will advise they should check this.

I bought a 2002 SEAT Toledo 1.9 TDi yesterday, drove it, all seemed fine! Engine made a little noise under acceleration, tappets? but other than that it was good.

Got it home last night no issue, 25 mile drive.

Today, start the car up and a LOT of white smoke was coming out of the exhaust (so much that I could see it wafting by the drivers door), car was juddery and a squeaking noise every half second from the engine bay. There also seemed to be more white smoke coming from the right hand side of the engine.

A little looking around and notice coolant level was very low, so have topped that off but that is more than likely a separate issue.

Any ideas of what it could be? Read more

IMHO diesels shouldn't make white smoke on starting. If there is also white smoke from the engine and the coolant is down, could be head gasket :-(

Wait for the experts' opinion.

I'm thinking about my next upgrade (from current Polo 2001).

Considering another Polo (my previous 3 Polos have been utterly reliable) in the newer shape - around 2008/9 I expect.... Read more

There are a least 2 versions of the 1.4 in the current shape and there have been / is 3 versions of the 1.2. There are tales of woe around most VW engines, possibly because of the numbers sold. Which variant are you considering?

Thanks. Not sure on the engine variant - but the lower power version. For my current Polo the 1.4 engine came as a 60hp engine or 75hp (which I think had 2 cams and more valves). Not sure if these were carried through on the next generation Polo but if they were I would go for the more simpler version.

Hello, can anyone help me find a workshop manual for the 's' type Civic.I've been in touch with Haynes and they don't have a manual in print (amazing considering the number you see on the roads),so I'm looking for alternatives.I'm going to have a go at the front and rear brake pads first, does any one know if any special tools are needed before I start on these apart from the usual wheel/brake tools. Thanks Read more

Just a little update for any Civic (06 on) owner looking out for a printed manual, having approached Haynes through a different contact, they are in the process of preparing a manual(the car is going through the workshop now) no. 4905.I was asked to contact them around August 2015 when they will be in a better position to know a publishing date.

At the last MOT (November) I had an advsisory that the front brake discs showed evidence of corrosion but not serious enough to fail. Due to problems with the health of my mother I only got around to replacing them yesterday and boy am I glad I did.

The brakes have evidently got much worse since the MOT was carried out and to be fair they still worked OK, although I had noticed a slight tailing off in their sharpness recently.... Read more

the title is a bit confusing but I know what I want to ask! I've owned a few diesels over the years and most have been afflicted by the same issue. One minute they run really well and are flying machines then you take them out anoither time and they run slightly off. The vehicles in question 1999 Frontera 2.2 DTI, 2003 Transit TDCI, 2005 Galaxy 1.9TDI 130ps. All have been the same - when running well you get a kick in the back when you stick your foot down, when "not running well" its like the timing is slightly out ie a very slight sluggishness in acceleration. What would be common to these type of engines whereby day to day running is affected? I cant work it out. A clue with the Transit and the Galaxy is if you go for a run say 10 miles, park up for an hour then drive off again, it runs much better after that little rest.

This all affected the transit the most....... Read more

I found this most noticable in an old Merc sprinter that I used to have on the books.
