Hi, Im asking for a good advice. My fiat Punto needs some major repairs. I have to replacr all door handles as the door wont open without a good push (resulted in dents in bodywork ) and electrics in drivers door as neither the window nor wing mirror works. Back door window needs repair as it was sliding down now its been temporarily fixed. The water was leaking through the gap in the window and the car got literally rotten inside after i left it for a week and went on holidays. Even full valet didnt help and he inside of the car stinks. Now I was wondering should i fix it or should i replace it. Its 2006 grande with 67000 miles! Thanks for advice Read more

Yep all simple enough fixes if you diy them with parts from breakers.

Might be worth taking all the carpets out for a week, put them out in the sun where you can wash them properly and let the sun dry them thoroughly, get some air to the underlay too which is probably still damp and where the smell probably is....

Manual signals at roadworks consist of a stop/go lollipop worded system changed by the workers by hand or recently by one person with a remote control box.

So you get one or the other. Red or green. Stop or go.

To reduce manpower they install normal traffic light temporary signals.

Then why are temporary electric signals of the sort red, amber, green. Surely if they are only to maintain a fair flow of traffic around an obstacle, a hole in the road, why can't they just be a red and green signal, just like the manual method.

The amber phase just gives time for the chancers who jump the lights and cause the opposite side to get less of a turn. It also wastes time getting the traffic moving. You could change from green to red and still have an interval before the green shows on the opposite side with enough time for cars to clear. Read more

<< So, perforce, you permit passing through on red. Do you still agree with the suggestion? >>

I presume you don't mean 'permit' in its true sense? If you mean that will happen, then yes, as I said above. When the green light no longer shows - whether replaced by amber or red - traffic should stop. But we both know that doesn't always happen.

The New JLR Ingenium engines will have service intervals of 21,000 miles on know doubt long life oil. My question is why take the risk, and why do car co's risk thier own reputation which such engineering stupidity. Are JLR looking for a fow of repete business from ancillary component failure? HJ is dead against long life nonsense. Read more

I am assuming that you are changing the filter and reusing the 'expensive' oil ? ...

A friend has bought a vehicle for less than £1,000, "Sold as Seen" 10 years old but less than 50,000 miles. She has only owned the vehicle for approximately 10 days and the vehicle needs a new starter motor. What would be the chances of getting a favourable response from the dealer under the Sale of Goods Act? Read more

I went through a similar issue and I spoke to a retired sales manager of a big car dealership, and if a fault appears so early on the dealer will/should put it right, its up to the dealer to prove that the fault was not there on selling the car which he wont be able to unless he already knew the fault was there and sold the car anyway and they will not admit to that, so therefore he has a duty to put it right regardless of age and mileage.

Whilst I agree with much of that, I doubt the sales manager was selling £1000 bangers but rather punting them straight to auction. The selling price and mileage does make a big difference in the quality of car the buyer has a right to expect....

I know choosing cars is a regular topic ( I've checked previous threads ) I'm hoping, within the next few months to get a newer car.

Although I like Volvo I think an auto would lead to significantly high fuel bills so am ready to discount them as a choice.... Read more

Thank you for these posts. Especial thanks KB for such detailed advice. I am frequenting the forums for the makes and the Jazz cvt (post 2011) is highly rated, without reservation.

I am not looking for a 'firecracker' and will be very careful. As I've posted before I did not choose wisely last time ( although the car does have many attractions ) I will not make the same mistakes again.

Hi all I recently had a split water hose which I had replaced. After this the car still started to lose water. The guy that replaced the hose 'knocked' out the thermostat and also change the water pump but I am still losing water! There is no 'gunk' in oil filler or dipstick. Could this be a head gasket issue or something else less serious? By the way it's a 2.0dti. Any ideas anyone?
Kind regards Read more

I know its late but my Zafira used to lose coolant but it was the water pump, the MOT people saw a leak and I had it replaced so it could be the water pump or thermostat

Hi, I need to know the pinout on coil pack for Peugeot 206 1.4 2006.

Thanking you in advance. Read more

Difficult to be accurate on these as peugeot use a wire number system rather than colours.May be easier to ask the question what is your problem with the coil? However one wire will be ignition supply and the other 3 return back to the engine ecu.

Hi, I recently bought this car with 13,000 miles on the clock, and on 14 mile trip home from the dealer, the rad. fan ran on for at least 5 min. I called the dealer back and was told this was normal. It dosn't do it after every trip, but sometimes.

I'm wondering if it is a sensor fault, but as it dosn't do it every time it probably wouldn't show as a fault on a scanner.... Read more

I bought a brand new Golf last December and it does this. As others have said, it's completely normal.

This assumes I beleive they will honour a promise. I don't, so the question is academic.

What I do think is they should invest in technology more. Already they have ways to check if someone has valid MOT (if needed) and insurance. Automatic checks like this should help remove the non compliant parasites. Reducing paperwork for coppers, using automation, to free up their time....
