My two year old CR-V for the last six months at times shows -40c with the external temperature gauge on starting up, takes usually a couple of days to settle down to work properly again. At such times the Auto Idle Stop warning shows and bleeps, approx 30 times recently in a 100mile trip. the gauge tends to show a somewhat lower reading after some miles but the problem persists on avaerage a couple of times each month. anyone else experienced this or any ideas how to overcome ? I would just take it to the dealer to get it checked under warranty as it's only two years old. I found that the Honda dealer I used when I had a CRV was excellent.

I purchased a new Vauxhall Insignia a few weeks ago. Shortly afterwards, I was travelling along a main 'A' road - at around 70mph - when the rear bumper became detatched and started flailing around. It obviously affected the steering, and it was no easy task to keep control of the car and avoid an accident before finding somewhere safe to pull over. My wife and I are pensioners, and it was a very scary experience. We were both shaken up. Anyway, I went straight to the dealer, who told me that three screws were missing. Obviously a serious oversight at the factory. I complained to Vauxhall. I explained that I was on a major road travelling at speed, and a serious accident might have occurred. Eventually, they got back to me. They said sorry, and offered me two free services. Now, I'm not out to make money, but I do feel that their offer is woefully inadequate and does not reflect the gravity of their mistake. Would people agree? Has anyone else experienced something similar, and did the manufacturer treat it more seriously? Read more

Why buy a new car that lacks features you want without researching their availabilty first.

As for answering texts when you are driving surely it can wait. Standard Bluetooth does all I want i.e. allows me to answer calls (if I decide to) safely and legally.

Lets not get started on that one again. Personally with 4 cars such a scheme would probably save me money but it would not work for many reasons.

Sounds cheap to me - £3000 per annum all in? Fantastic value compared with all other modes of motorised transport, most of which isn't there where you want it and doesn't go where you eventually want to be.

It would be even cheaper if we didn't subsidise those who travel with very small amounts of baggage on anachronistic rail coaches - often able to claim their ticket costs from someone else - and that someone else is often HMG - who gets it back from the motorist.....

Hello

I went to see a used car I found through Auto Trader at a Bristol Dealership today. I liked that car and went home and looked up the dealership to check out their credentials. It was Tiley Motors (on the business card), also known as Tiley of Bristol (website). According to Companies House they are "dissolved".... Read more

Thanks Avant. I am getting good at walking away from cars! (It's an art is seems).

You've said that you are a novice at visiting dealerships. After reading all the reports about others' experiences when doing that, you can easily suspect any dealership to be shysters....

Saw these for the first time to day on a new A6.

Not sure what to think tbh. An Audi giimick or something else? Different though. Read more

What I do object to, as another poster alluded to, is the stupid cornering front lights, usually in the place where front fog lights used to be. Utterly pointless, especially when they activate during the day as well.

Well now there i have to disagree, i've not driven a car so fitted (any new ones will have been in transit mode) but my current artic which i've had for 2.5 years does have them, single purpose cornering lights in their own lenses, fog lights have their own lenses alongside....

Hi all -- first time posting on this site and really hoping someone else has managed to solve this problem!

I've had this car since it was 6 months old and it's actually been amazingly good apart from odd Citroen-style electrical niggles. The current one is driving me mad: it often detects an open tailgate, even when it is definitely shut, and sounds the warning alarm. This can go on pretty much continuously for a long time, leaving me as a dribbling wreck. I understand that there is a microswitch to activate this warning, housed in the tailgate's catch, and have replaced the catch unit. It was OK for quite a while but the problem has come back with a vengeance.... Read more

A belated update in the forum's spirit of sharing experiences ...

Bearing in mind the replies from Skidpan and Peter N, I did check carefully around the rear wiper mounting (which incorporates the defunct switch for opening the rear window). Nothing obvious but I went around it with a fillet of clear bathroom sealant and am happy to report that the problem went away and, six months down the line, has not yet come back! I'm very happy, as the rest of the car is still going beautifully....
