Audi A 6 - Dynamic Indicators - Halmerend

Saw these for the first time to day on a new A6.

Not sure what to think tbh. An Audi giimick or something else? Different though.

If you mean the sequential rear indicators,it's nothing new .US cars had them in the 60s/70s.

"Sequential" indicators might be a better description. There is a series of LEDs making up the rear indicator unit and the LEDs illuminate in sequence ("1, 1+2, 1+2+3" and so on until they are all lit, then off again, and repeat ad infinitum).
The down side to all this technology is that from a distance it would look like the lights on a breakdown truck, as I don't think I've ever seen an Audi driver using his indicators...

I would have thought it illegal in the uk at least. Should be illegal. Modern cars are increasingly using lights as chavvy circus acts. Some are downright distracting, others do not in my opinion perform the job required, e.g. those that have to turn off or dim other lights in a cluster to allow indicators to be seen. Dangerous trend.

Multiplexed lights e.g. rear lights on latest new megabuses, ought to be banned.

Should impress small boys, Jags get rotating vents and a Zanussi washing machine program gearknob, Audi gets a bit more bling on the outside, any of it of any benefit other than hoping to impress people who might actually be face palming?

I don't have strong views either way on the Audi rear indicators.

What I do object to, as another poster alluded to, is the stupid cornering front lights, usually in the place where front fog lights used to be. Utterly pointless, especially when they activate during the day as well.

Another example of the "look at me" culture.

Besides, the Citroen DS had these in the 1950's and at least these used to actually swivel with the steering input.

Bah!

Well now there i have to disagree, i've not driven a car so fitted (any new ones will have been in transit mode) but my current artic which i've had for 2.5 years does have them, single purpose cornering lights in their own lenses, fog lights have their own lenses alongside.

At first i thought them a bit silly, and as far as i'm aware they only work if the normal headlights are on, but for turning sharply into unlit roads i'm quietly impressed when they illuminate exactly what i'm about to turn into, especially so turning right seeing as the MAN headlight beams are sharply cut off at the bottom right...probably more useful in an artic than a car as you have to exaggerate tight turns to allow for the trailer cutting the corner, so effectively going further forward than you otherwise would and making a sharp last minute turn.

Going back to Audi lights in general, and they are by no means alone in this, they go from the sublime to the ridiculous, some VW/Audi models had silly little indicators that you struggled to see in the best light (or dark), and now some makes and models have rear and brake lights that could sear your retinas....not forgetting increasingly silly front fairy lights.
