I've got an ongoing issue with an engine error code of "knock sensor signal too high". I've had the sensor replaced and all the usual stuff checked. I reset the code and it comes back randomly sometimes after a week, sometimes after 1 day...

The knock sensor is piezo, just like a microphone.

Its not powered from the car so the signal is quite low level....

On my Meriva the lights on one side (apart from the side light) have stopped working. If I indicate the arrow on the dash flashes at double speed. I've tried replacing bulbs and even swapping the drivers side light unit but still the same result. It's a 2010 1.4 design. Any ideas?? Read more

Whilst looking for a lighting fault on a relative's Vauxhall, I found the use of dissimilar metals in the connections. This obviously leads to oxidation and corrosion. It looks like your headlamp unit may have fallen foul of the same poor construction. A possible solution is to thoroughly clean all electrical connections. If that doesn't work, then it's necessary to make up a test lamp or use a multi-meter to follow the path of battery and earth until the disconnection is found.

Looking to buy a cheap van for my new business, all vans within my budget are clapped out, well trashed and have travelled to the moon and back. I've found the car version of the vans (e.g. Citroen Berlingo, Peugoet Partner, Renault Kangoo & Nissan Kubistar) I've been looking at are in much better condition for cheaper, so I'm thinking about converting a car to a van. From what I see, I have to remove the back seats, render seatbelt anchors unusable, blank out the windows, and a few more jobs, and then get it inspected. All I can do easily - even if I get a van, I still need to do similar work to get it to meet my business needs. I'm not going to use the car/van for personal use at all, 100% business. I'm not looking to save on tax or insurance, or pull a fast one.

My question is can I change the V5 to show it as a van, and what about insurance? Where and who does the inspection? Will it run me into problems with the authorities?... Read more

I see no reason to inform the insurance company

That works fine until something happens....

Hiya,

I am looking to invest in a XC90 as an upgrade to my falling apart Seat Alhambra that I currently ferry my 4 children around in. I have 3 under 4's and I can currently fit the 3 car seats across the middle row with my teenage daughter in the front meaning I have a huge boot with the 2 extra seats removed. This works well for us as we do a lot of motorway miles to visit family some 200 miles away on a fairly regular basis. However my car is slowly falling apart and I am looking to 'upgrade' slightly to a 2004/05 XC90. ... Read more

Having owned an XC90 I can say it's very nice , but tyres dont last much more than 10-15K and are pricy along with fuel costs. Servicing seamed not to bad if you don't use the dealers. Off and On Road performance is great.

Hi. Today I noticed none of the brake lights are working including the one in the back window. Can someone please help so I can resolve this problem. It's becoming a nightmare. I don't have the car Manuel either so I'm in the dark.

And if it isn't the fuse, then the switch on the brake pedal has come loose. Never heard of the switch failing on the Fiesta, but I suppose it can happen.

Incidentally, I was following a Fiesta the other day and there was only one brake light working on it. When that last bulb fails, the driver may think that there's a bigger problem than merely needing new bulbs!...

Hi

We have had a new ignition barrel fitted to the car by a local garage but the keys that came with it are not remote keys.

Is there any way to program the old key to the new barrel and locks.

Thanks Read more

No easy way out of this.My original suggestion of a new barrel ordered to vin number is the simple solution.Or get the new barrel reconfigured to accept the old key metal blade.

You have confused racism and xenophobia. Try googling for an explanation.

You also seem to have confused top gear with a factual tv programme, on that bombshell goodnight.

Hi all - I am thinking of ordering a new Lexus IS300h as my next company car to replace a MB C220 cdi. Does anyone have any experience/views on the car.
For a number of reasons the IS works out about £150 a month cheaper than the equivalent 3 series and C class so is looking very tempting. Read more

Hello all,,

Now,, I have a coolant leak on my 2004 Peugeot 307 2.0 hdi. I've managed to trace it to the back part of the engine and it looks like it could be one of the hoses that go in to the egr cooling system. ... Read more
