I've got an issue with my Mk2 Clio misfiring/running uneven when starting from cold.
I've taken it to a garage a few times but they've not been able to find any fault code so either the fault isn't generating a code or other codes have pushed the fault codes out of the ECU's memory (I've left it overnight once but the temperature the following moring was too warm for the fault to show up).... My Father's Skoda Fabia has recently developed a fault with the heater fan. It will only work on the max setting.
Can anyone tell me if there is a resistor pack that controls the speed of the fan and any tips on how to change it?... Read more

Can anybody assist with providing the true running cost for a CLA 45 AMG Read more
As to the running costs : the base car (no options) is about £39k. At 3 years old, it'll be worth roughly 50%, so depreciation will be £6k per annum, or £500 per month.
Assuming you've got a decent driving record and are 0ver 25, then insurance, servicing, tyres, fuel and all other running costs will probably be the same again, or a bit less....
We are looking at changing our car for something a little bigger and more economical and have narrowed the choice down to these two the 320d and the Octavia 2.0 TDi - both autos. Both are 2014 models with under 10k.
I am due to drive both of them tomorrow and am genuinely open minded as to which to buy with the Octavia cost to us at around £3200 and the BMW around £6500.... Read more
The V40 is a nice car but quite a bit smaller than the 3-series, never mind the Octavia. If you need more room you'd need to look at the V60 which is of course more expensive.
I have been advised that my model Vectra has a switch on the rear of the headlight to change the dip from RHD to LHD. Does anyone know where the switch is located? Do you have to remove the headlight to make the change? Read more
first identify type of light you have ... Having looked through two different owners manuals; an earlier manual (March 2003) mentions there is a lever to adjust the headlights for continental driving, but in a later manual (Aug 2003) it says that if you haven't got Adaptive Forward Lighting (AFL) then to Place covers on both headlights. If you have got Adaptive Forward Lighting (AFL)
1. Open and remove the cover of the fusebox in the engine compartment
2. Fit fuse (maxi-fuse) 3 (with designation "Transport") in slot 38.
3. Switch on ignition.
After the conversion, the AFL control
indicator lights for 4 seconds each time the ignition is switched on....
Hi all,
This morning I sold the Mondeo (MK4 tit x) privately. Over the past 5 years it's been a great car but I fancy a change. I was tempted by the Civic Tourer SR (diesel) - like the looks, drives ok, frugal, but it just felt a little cramped inside passenger wise.... Read more
Well I purchased the said car and after a couple of weeks of ownership I'm happy with what I got. Agreed it's perhaps not the most exciting car to drive, but it's comfortable and so far economical.
The car itself was in poor condition considering it's only 6/7 months old. Obviously never seen a bucket of soapy water in that time, but I can see through all that and realised for the money I got a decent deal. Software/firmware for the radio needs updating and that's booked in with my local dealer for a weeks time. ...
Hello.
As I am on a pauper budget I'm thinking of getting an old non-turbo diesel for a reliable cheap to run basic car. I plan to DIY. Heard little old turbo diesels not so reliable.... Read more
My experience of these non turbo diesels is that they go a lot better and are much more economical if they are given a good thrash every so often. But you should only do this once you are satisfied that the engine is fully warm and that it will not spontaneously disintergrate during the thrash - hence get the cambelt done and the water pump, pulleys etc etc beforehand.
A good drive up and down steep hills in low gears works wonders. Clears all the rubbish out of the engine.
Hi could anyone help with this issue i am having with a 2008 Vauxhall movano 2.5 diesel, the van starts up fine and after running for about 5-10 seconds the engine cuts out and will not start again for 5-10 minutes, then once it starts its can run all day and doesnt have a problem starting again until the following day, if this is a common problem or what the problem might be, I would be thankful

If I were working on this I'd initially suspect fuel supply/pressure.
10-15 seconds sounds about right to use up all the fuel in the filter....
I have been having trouble with my car for over 12 months now. Particularly in cold weather, when I start to speed up to join the motorway first thing in the morning, when I go to change gear my car stutters and goes into limp mode and the engine management light comes on. I have to pull over, turn the car off for 10 seconds and then back on and all is fine and it doesn't do it again that day. It always does it first thing in the morning and mainly when it is cold. It seems to be as soon as I try to speed up about 60mph joining the motorway.

The best thing to do with a car that has an intermittent fault is to flog it before it drives you mad.
Even more so if it's a Vauxhall. You're probably bored with it anyway.
No codes doesn't mean no faults,
It means all sensor data is within manufacturers limits....
