Whilst looking for a lighting fault on a relative's Vauxhall, I found the use of dissimilar metals in the connections. This obviously leads to oxidation and corrosion. It looks like your headlamp unit may have fallen foul of the same poor construction. A possible solution is to thoroughly clean all electrical connections. If that doesn't work, then it's necessary to make up a test lamp or use a multi-meter to follow the path of battery and earth until the disconnection is found.
