Hello I have a 1990 registered Vauxhall Cavalier 1.7 diesel nonturbo I have recently noticed that the coolant hoses are very tight. Also when it has been running there is a slight weep of coolant coming from the small hose which returns to the coolant tank at its connection at the radiator. The car has done a genuine 60,000 miles and has been meticulously maintained. We have fitted The following new parts and are all genuine Vauxhall, new radiator all new coolant hoses new water pump new heater matrix new Cambelt. The car doesn't overheat in fact runs very cool the heaters are nice and hot, there are no air bubbles in the expansion tank, it has never had a head gasket and due to the cars age which is now 25 years old could this be the start of the head gasket starting to go? The instrument cluster on SWMB's V70 gradually lost all functions, clock, odometer, trip meter, blue headlight warning etc. Main dealer advised new cluster, £700 plus removing and electric settings and refitting and the dreaded vat on top. Cartronix quoted £180 to repair with 2 years guarantee and were as good as their word. Result. Read more

I bought a Kia Cee'd in January last year with a 7 years Kia warranty. After 4 months paint started peeling off the front bumper. A local body shop advised me the paintwork was faulty.

Shelly Motors of Epsom have led me a merry dance for 8 months during which time I have been passed from employee to employee, learning that my 'claim has been Ok'd and the replacement bumper is on its way' to my 'claim is refused and I have been driving the car too fast'. Or, otherwise, that Kia cars should not be taken through a car wash and that the only machine in the UK that Kia has to measure paint thickness has been sold to an Italian company. You get the picture?... Read more

If Kia, as you say, have no idea what has happened to the cars, they should not give a 7 years warranty.

Having given a 7 year warranty surely you are not saying it should not be honoured?...

Over the last couple of weeks it takes me two or three tries to start my aging S-Max. I'm wondering what the problem might be. It turns over but then fails to fire. Usually on the 2nd and recently more commonly 3rd try it starts. I've noticed that if I leave the ignition at the same position for the pre-heat thing for five extra seconds after the pre-heat light goes off, it appears to help.

Any ideas what it might be and if I can fix myself and avoid an expensive garage visit? Read more

Is the starter turning over as quickly as it was? If not, as sugested probably needs a new battery - or starter.

Snakey, luckily there are still some good roads where I live and in the right car they should be a lot of fun.

son-of-alf, I had the Coupe version too. I am afraid I discounted the Audi TT because of the DSG gearbox. I've heard great things about some of the DSGs but I really don't want to own one out of warranty. Glad your enjoying yours as well. ...

The auto hi-discharge nearside dipped headlight on my Honda CRV is clearly set higher than the offside. The handbook says beam deflectors are not necessary for continental driving. I frequently drive in France and am often "flashed" by drivers of on-coming vehicles when they encounter my dipped headlight. I advised th main dealer of this and asked them to check the alignment. They said they are set correctly. Should the hi-power self leveling lights be set "level", as opposed to nearside being set high as with traditional headlights? Read more

Thank you. I'll check to seee they are both at the same level as you suggest. I bet they are not!
