Hi all, a tech question for you. Firstly a laugh, as I was trying to jump start a van, and stupidly connected the cables the wrong way round. There were sparks and I immediately removed them. Luckily later in the day, my car actually started-I had visions of a 4 figure sum involving the electronics etc.

Trouble is although it starts, the engine idles quite roughly and the light is on, on the dashboard. Any ideas as to what could be the problem? I haven't driven the car as yet. The battery was brand new, and I plan to check fuses and stuff, before I call out a mech. Read more

You may have damaged the car's ECU.

Try a BSI reset first (Google "Peugeot BSI Reset" for the instructions)....

I have been with Admiral for some years, this month at renewal they increased the premium for £235 to £335, I phoned and was told it was because of high incidence of theft on this car. I have checked with the police and numerous motoring magazines, it appears it is only the keyless cars being stolen to order not the older model, has anyone else had this experience? Read more

Another vote for IAM/Cornmarket insurance. I recently renewed with them and was impressed with their customer care. I received a quote from another insurer (via mailshot) which on the face of it was about £50 cheaper than IAM,but when such things as roadside assistance etc. was added ended up being £90 more. Sharp practice or what?!

It's sharp practice to INCLUDE extras like roadside assistance !...

I had a new clutch and flywheel fitted in March last year. Recently I have noticed a vibration/shudfdering sound from the engine, which only happens when the engine is stated from hot. When cold, no problem and apart from that the car runs beautifully.

I was advised my my local garage to take the car to a VW main dealer to diagnose the problem. They say it needs a new Cluch/flywheel and starter motor. Anothe garage has advised a new Clutch and flywheel.... Read more

I cleaned out the filter and MAF out a couple of months ago which solved an issue with power loss at 3.5k rpm but nothing else has been changed in the last year since I've had the car. Personally I think it could be over fuling but I'm not sure.

If it's running rich, I suggest a NEW air filter foirst....

My garage checked today at a service and told me the upper guide on the timing chain had split - they showed me and it has - a nice clean split! A known issue - apparently. There was no noise, rattle or any other indication from the engine, which has covered 58K miles, has a full service record and was running nicely.

I'm told they will replace the upper guide and put in a new tensioner, as the original BMW item isn't long enough and therefore doesn't push the guide in far enough to create adequate tension on the chain.... Read more

Your council still uses an incinerator?

They are the 'new green' again, due to EU landfill restrictions.
