I have been with Admiral for some years, this month at renewal they increased the premium for £235 to £335, I phoned and was told it was because of high incidence of theft on this car. I have checked with the police and numerous motoring magazines, it appears it is only the keyless cars being stolen to order not the older model, has anyone else had this experience?

I've been told all sort of cobblers by call centre staff over the years.

Just do the Meercat, go with whoever you fancy/trust from the list (unless your present insurer wants to meet/beat, mine does) and save money.

For years i tried to be a loyal customer in all sort sof things from Gas supplies to car insurance, finally i've had to accept that loyalty doesn't exist any more and they appear to view people who stop with them as fools to be bled dry.

If you happen to be a PSV/HGV driver or IAM member then Cornmarket, formerly Adelaide, will beat any quote, been with them couple of years now and again they've beaten all the others.

The call centre is absolutely correct. The new ones are suffering a spate of thefts mainly off the side of the road in the west of London. They run over a 100k each. Saw a claim for one from one of our minted insureds last month.

The issue is removal of parts not theft of the whole car, in particular lights and grills, as they can be removed in seconds.

Despite this do as gordonbennet says and shop around.

I'll second GB's comment re. Cornmarket / Adelaide. Top notch.

I'm IAM, and have been with them for 6 or 7 years now. Consistently competitive, with a fantastic level of customer service.

I'm also IAM with Adelaide/Cornmarket but I'd dispute the "consistent" part of that statement - in the 8 years I've been with them, 3 of those the premium had been increased uncompetitively so I had to invoke their "price match" facility - I was also less than happy with the number of claims management companies they involved after an accident.

I'm with IAM too and have insured with Cornmarket?Adelaide for 5 years now, had to ring them at the last 2 renewals but they have price matched without any problems. I've also found that the policy excesses tend to be lower than other insurers that I have got quotes from.

Another vote for IAM/Cornfield insurance. I recently renewed with them and was impressed with their customer care. I received a quote from another insurer (via mailshot) which on the face of it was about £50 cheaper than IAM,but when such things as roadside assistance etc. was added ended up being £90 more. Sharp practice or what?!

It's sharp practice to INCLUDE extras like roadside assistance !

But to be fair, once told you don't want roadside assistance, IAM/Adelaide/Cornmarket do remember each year not to include it.
