Being in a country area we don't see many foreign number plates but the occasional plates from Poland (PL), and I think Estonia (E) are seen because the owners work in tne local sweet works. (The local people won't get out of bed for the pay rates). The plates have the EU circle of stars on a blue background.
Today I visited a nearby town and saw a numberplate with a UK registration number and the end of the plate (LHside facing front) had a green background with a crescent moon and a star, beneath these were the letters PAK. ... Read more
Vehicle under 2 years old. Engine running rough. Simpsons of Colne discovered that number 3 plug lead was burned out. Diagnosed cause to be use of supermarket (Morrisons) fuel. Therefore not covered by warranty. Cost me £183 for new lead and 4 new plugs. I was shewn neither lead nor plugs and on enquiry was told that they had "gone". Did a check on BRISKODA.net and discovered 2 others with similar problem. However in each of their cases diagnosis was that cause was number 3 lead coming into contact with exhaust manifold. my 2009 bmw 320d starts ,runs ,drives fine but occasionally a shudder seems to start at the back then slowly goes ! iv been told could be a bush ! but this seems very unlikely i wondered if could be the traction control acting up ? any ideas anyone :) Read more
Why should it not be a bush there are quite few to choose from and do not forget they need rear tracking when they are replaced.They have a very complicated suspension set up and very expensive for parts so I suggest you take it to a BMW specialist and get a second opinion.
I'm not even sure I have a problem with my 70k Avant, but since replacing the Alternator drive pulley, the steering feels 'wooly' and vague to me.
It may well be the case that I'm just paranoid, but it seems that when going over a slight bump the steering seems to pull one way or the other, and I seem to be always correcting it. Checked the tyre pressures, topped up the fluid to no avail, the tyres are wearing slightly more on the outside, and you do hear a slight (grinding?) noise from the pump when turning the wheel lock to lock when parking, but that could have always been the case. It could be just that I've noticed it after suffering the noise the failed alternator pulley made.... Read more
If bumps are affecting the steering I would have thought you either have a worn suspension joint or slightly bent suspension component.
You will need to jack up the front & check for play in all the joints & make sure nothing is bent.
We drive to Spain every year with 3 kids and use a cool box in the boot 12v socket, various extensions for DVD players etc off the passenger 12v socket, and use the driver 12v Socket for the ssanav and travel kettle.
My question is: can I buy a 24v travel kettle (for motorhomes?) and increase the volage/ampage of the fuses in the car fusebox to get a more powerful kettle? Read more
I have a 2013 avensis tourer which has 2 x 12V sockets: 1 in the dashboard under the heating & ventilation controls and the other inside the centre console storage which has now been fitted with a sliding and hinged lid. The socket in the centre colsole isn't much good since toyota have "improved" the design by fitting a lid because if anything is plugged into the socket, there is a risk of the wire being crushed when the lid is closed. I have tried a flying lead type extension socket like the ebay link shows but there is nowhere suitable to mount the extension sockets. I have also tried a plug in double extension sockets and USB plugged into the dashboard 12V socket but this gets in the way of the HVAC controls on the dashboard. I have also found that a phone charger lead with a 12V plug on the end charges a phone much quicker than a USB phone charger lead in the car.
Another fly on the wall doc this one about car dealers in an Essex car yard. It showed how they do the deals with the buyers to win them over and how nearly every deal was a skin on your teeth conclusion where one false move and the customer would have walked. Apparently they don't make huge profits on a sale and the salesmen have to do a sale a day to make a decent income on top of their basic.
Well I don't know how much of this was playing to the cameras but to have to do this job day after day and go through the agonizing haggles with the customer each time I think they earn their money.... Read more
I'm thinking this garage is only going to get the "sort" of publicity that that Hotel in Liverpool got for a similar "fly-on-the-wall" series a few years ago. Not good to air your dirty linen in public, unless of course things get much better by the end of the series (not too long I would hope, as people might not watch all the episodes and not realise the improvement later on).

i have a 407 diesel. when i try to start it hot or cold it sounds as though the battery is flat although i have just bought a new battery, new starting motor.new clutch

Connect a volt meter between the large terminal on your starter motor & the motor body. Crank the engine & see what the voltage is. Should be at least 10v. If not, start looking at all the battery & earth conexions.
bought a 08 focus 1.8 tdci from a dealer ,straight away engine management light on ,had seen mechanic day before servcing car ,so took back
