I note in the news section today on the site that Subaru have dropped the price of their crossover model by £2300 "due to the fall of the yen against the pound."
Very admirable until you consider why the other models in Subaru's portfolio have not also come down in price as well.... Read more

Hi can anyone shed any light on my problem?
I have a laguna 1.9dci dynamique, the turbo seals went on it and resulted in the usual drinking its own oil, I managed to shut down the engine fairly quickly and on checking oil later it had used maybe half a litre. Anyway, I have since fitted a brand new turbo and feed pipe but for some reason it just doesn't want to start. Yesterday I sprayed some easy start into the intake and it fired up straight away but died as soon as I stopped spraying which to me suggests it isn't getting fuel. I took off the return pipe from the injectors one by one and there is a fair amount of fuel pumping out when engine is cranked. I presume this is a fault in the injectors somewhere but is there any way of finding out which injector/s is faulty? Can they be overhauled? What would cause injector to fail due to a turbo fault? Could this be a immobiliser problem or something other than injectors?
I'd appreciate any help offered Read more
You are quite correct but common rail injectors are opened by an electric current from the ECU not by the fuel pressure, so something is telling it not to inject, possibly low fuel line pressure or could be a faulty sensor somewhere.
A lot of this ducting is prone to rattling and vibrating. I've just been locating the source of a rattle and discovered an air flow pipe with a blanked off end wedged under the wing above the splash screen. I'm just curious as to it's purpose. There is a mass of air ducting on this car most of it baffling to me, but what is the bit inside the wing for? Read more
So the purpose of this piece of pipe is for noise reduction. I have no idea how it achieves that, but that's what they tell me in the Ford garage. A bit ironic really as that was the cause of an unwanted noise.
I was thinking of putting a nice new set of Avon ZZ5's on my A4.
Having looked on P/h and reviews elsewhere they seem to be well thought of and good value for money (An important consideration these days with the costs of everything rising !!)
Evo seem to rate them highly on an S4!!! and I believe that Avon's are factory fitted to Aston Martins.
I rang Camskill only to be told that I could be in danger of having an insurance claim rejected if I didn't get 'AO' rated tyres.
Surely as long as they have good tread and are the correct size, load/speed rating this is not the case?
Your advice would be appreciated??? Read more
Cyd's post shows how different tyres suit different cars.
I had F1's on an MB, agreed very good once warm but prone to excessive wheelspin when cold and would form flat spots overnight which took several miles running to round off and warm up, i took them off and sold them on....
Does anyone know of any test cases covering engine durability under Section 14 of SOGA sub section 2B which states that for goods to be fit for purpose they should be durable, i.e last for a reasonable length of time.
I am trying to ascertain what may be a reasonable length of time for an engine to last having had a failure after 3 years at 19,000 miles havinghad it serviced by the dealer in accordance with the service schedule. The failure was just two months after the last service.... Read more
"... I have now resolved the issue with the dealer and we have come to an agreement that will result in no cost to me."
Would you care to elaborate, as some of us are, I'm sure, intrigued by the case? The dealer would not play ball at first, you seemed to suggest....

Bromptonaut, you make many relevant points, my comments were based on conversations over the last day or so, summarising what the general view appears to be around here (Yorkshire, unemployment 9%+ and further job losses announced weekly).
You can perhaps understand how MPs taking an increase will be viewed.
Hi, any advice appreciated, I bought the Mondeo in march this year with 40k on the clock, still has a year of manufacturers warranty left, in june the clutch went (10 days after the 60 day dealer warrant ran out) only sign was the revs climbing at 2500rpm for a second then back to normal, this happened a coupe of times then the cluch went, took it to a ford garage and they said the clutch was burnt out and recommended that I change the slave and the DMF, £1400. ouch and not warrantable, now a couple of weeks later there is a strong shudder / vibration coming up through the steering wheel when the brakes are applied, the dealer I bought it from and the ford garage that fixed the clutch both say that is warped discs,(poss £450.00 to fix) Ford warranty say they are not warrantable parts, if anyone knows what the problem could be and where I stand on warranted parts, and what come back I may have against the dealer I bought it from (A Clark in Edinburgh), I feel anoyed that im spending alot of money on a car I have only had for 4 months, and when I get someone on the phone they are quick to pass me to someone else or fob me off.
Many thanks, G. Read more
I also recall that a service fix for this was what was termed "abrasive pads" which scoured the hard patches off the discs.
In my kerbside cowboy days my local factor was a Ferodo stockist and i always where possible fitted them, always a first class product.
I remember them having a really rough sandpaper style finish to the pad which cleaned up the disc a treat during initial bedding in, every vehicle i fitted these to the brakes were significantly improved....

What is normal (working) exhaust temperature readings from Bank 1 Sensor 1 and Sensor 2, when DPF reheneration IS NOT present?... Read more
Someone might correct me, but I don't think there is an actual pyrometer in the exhaust system. EGTs are estimated from a look-up table based on load, AFR, RPM etc.
Diesel EGTs have massive variation. Typical turbine outlet temps would be ~150C @idle...

Well, lupus, you've got the best of me. My Outback 2.5 petrol at 76,000 miles, is giving about 25mpg, mainly around town, and surprise though it may seem, I'm satisfied with that.
