I have a 2 year old Volvo XC60 SE Geartronic AWD and looking for advice as to when is the best time to change to either a new shape XC60 or a BMW X3 2.0d xdrive auto SE taking into consideration depreciation of my XC60 with a new shape coming out i.e. change now or next year ? Also which car would be best to change to living in Scotland and need a 4x4 for occasional snow conditions (rural area) and to carry a sea kayak on roof ??
Many Thanks... Read more

If one takes out 3 year GAP Insurance on a new motor vehicle then sells the vehicle in the first year with 2 years still valid can one claim a rebate? or... Read more
If you know you're going to change cars within a year and you've brought the car brand new, bear in mind that most decent car Insurers will arrange a brand new replacement vehicle if you write it off in the first year of ownership.
NFU offer two years and last time I looked so do Saga....

My understanding is that the reason there are now so many clips of awful driving in the Russian Federation and other parts of eastern Europe is that people use dashcams to establish the truth of what happens in the frequent accidents that occur out there.
The clip is fascinating and awful at the same time. I reckon a lot of the drivers concerned were out of their head on vodka or whatever.
Just as horrid to look at as the first one :( Read more
That looks truly awful, shame as the bigger diesel engined one would have been worth a look. Not having the cash or inclination to buy a 4wd Audi or BMW I think I'll wait for the new Skoda Scout.
Is there anybody out there who is in the same boat as I am?
I have been waiting almost 8 weeks for a offside door barrel lock for my new Mini Cooper from BMW in Germany. BMW customer services have told me the part is in now in Germany after 8 weeks of chasing around in circles! BMW customer services still can't tell me when the part will be delivered to England!
They don't seem to that bothered about their customers, I've asked why they can't send the part by DHL or some other service! Just getting blanked by customer services. Does anybody have any suggestions how I might get some response? Read more
If as someone thinks it is a barrel with matching key number up to 1 month IS normal. if the car can be locked and unlocked using the remote, surely not a problem, But my personal opinion is that 8 weeks and counting is not good, these particular barrels are made in germany if my memory serves me well. when i wanted a new programmed key which had to come to my dealer from germany it was 10 days.

not vegi oil...... Read more
OK. i have just got off the vegetablebiodiesel.co.uk discussion forum and it would appear that people are using b100 in the dci engines, it would also appear that they are not suffering any problems other than those that dci's are prone to anyway.
i have even found a conversion kit for 2 tank system running straight vegi oil, manufactured by a german company called Elsbett, who alledgedly, pioneered the concept of driving on vegi oil....
Here is a copy of the complaint email I sent to the managing director of MR CLUTCH
Dear Mr ......
I unfortunately find myself writing to you as your company has let me down with the work carried out...then proceeded to explain the poor workmanship as a known fault...and then when I have complained I have received nothing but a dead end where the franchisee has the last say and his word is better than mine....effectively calling me a liar.
I have tried to reason with Sarah from the complaints department but her answer is basically get stuffed as we have policies and whatever the franchise owner says is law and you as a company have no power over them leaving me in the wind with no way getting satisfaction.
Effectively she is saying the franchise can behave as it pleases with no control. This is not how a franchise works!...you are responsible for their behaviour and level of service.
I was sent away from your garage in Wimbledon with a £500 clutch that does not work properly with the explanation that the fault may or may not go away and it was a Vauxhall design fault known by everybody???...the van is un-driveable!...when I returned the van to the mechanic and explained that I called 3 garages and the Vauxhall dealer to verify his claim and that they had all said that he talking nonsense and trying to explain away mr clutches poor workmanship...to which he replied and I quote "Vauxhall don't know anything, I have been doing this for 20 years"... implying they are now lying...everybody is in the wrong but the garage it seems!
When I brought this poor service to Sarah's attention she has been of no help and has defended the company without listening to me....she also claims that she has no authority over the franchisee and therefore I beg the question ...WHY BOTHER WITH A COMPLAINTS DEPARTMENT THAT CANNOT DO ANYTHING as they have no power....
I expect you will investigate this complaint and for the sake of your company get a leash on your franchises and resolve my situation by fixing my clutch properly without lies and by accepting responsibility for poor service and workmanship.

I towed a dutch tourist into a "Mr Clutch" a few years ago,
it was the Gloucester branch, saturday lunchtime, obviously no delivery service available, but it was a volvo 440 i think that used a renault engine (correct me if i am wrong), but they said the equivalent drive plate would fit (it did) and were as helpful as can be. They said, go and visit gloucester a bit, come back, and the car was fixed. ...

Today I took my 1996 Mercedes E300D for an MOT. I wasn't expecting it to pass, as it hasn't been used for 6 months on public roads. It was the third car in and the first to pass. The failures were a 2006 Corsa and a 3 year old Mercedes ML. The latter needs £600 spending on it to get it through! Read more
E300D probably the simplest most robust car you could run these days, see our long sold '95 saloon regularly and it still looks fine, good to drive too with a real auto box.
Still have a 124 coupe, probably see me out....

I only change cars when there's a fundamental model change - 6/7 years typically - average depreciation is much lower and high maintenance hasn't kicked in.
Personally, I'd wait until the XC60 is moved off the Ford platform with Peugeot diesels onto the Volvo SPA platform and VEA engine - rather than the 2014 model year facelift.
