Hello :),
Looks like I've got the dreaded EAC Fail on my fiesta, i've read around and there seems to be hundreds of things this could be.
Its only happened once to me; I was slowing down and then the "EAC FAIL" message flashes on the dash, the car really struggled to move under its own power, in neutral it would rev up very slowly (as if the car was in 5th). Restarting the car sorted it out and managed to be fine for a 15 mile journey.
The car is due in for a service next month so I will mention it, but i've seen a few scare story's with people having to pay over £1000 in parts and still the issue is occurring. (which i don't have tbh).
I've read on the ford ST forums that cleaning the throttle body's can sort it, but there is also a problem with the connectors for the pedal sensor (they're fly by wire right?).
I assume I'll have to get it into a garage to get the fault code checked out, but I don't want to go through the whole process of them finding no problems and replacing bits for fun. Read more
Hello
today we went to slough about 09:00 from kent - all was well, little traffic/etc.
on the way back @ about 13;00hrs,loads of traffic, nose to tail traffic, and many idiots having a smoke whilst trying to drive and window open in temps of 4C. Hence the stench of their fags getting into our car. Ok the air recirculation turned on, but at times too late.
what really wound us up was the usual idiots with windows open letteing out their stink - so why can't they keep the windows closed and air re-circulation on to enjoy the full effect of their fags?
This got me out of the car; Has seen it before, a idiot smoker chucks fag butt out of window avd can land in your car. This time it landed between the gap of the bonnet and window 7 smoke was coming up. I got out of the car as it was slow moving traffic along the embankment & went over to the fool by Chelsea bridge traffic lights and rebuked the fool. He wanted to swear by all accounts but stopped as i said i was going to call the cops as he's littered the streets and endangered me/other motorists by throwing out a lighted fag butt. (9if it had been a mild day, i usually open the rear windows of my car and thick people like this cretin are the type that burn your car seat or put you and others at risk by checking out a lighted cigarette into your car)
I've had enough of these anti-social scum bags that check out fags out of their vehicles with total disregard to the safety of others. It's about time the cops pull these thick people in. The law needs to be changed so ignorant people are banned for this pathetic , and dangerous behaviour.

That's enough - locked. Paul2OO7 is an impostor (see last post but one) and not the OP Paul 2007 - Accounts will be suspended in due course. There are some real idiots in this place.
I have owned a '56 diesel SE Sport Volvo for 8 months, bought and last serviced by an independent.
Almost from first getting the car there were intermittent problems with it starting. These got progressively worse.
As the warranty was about to run out I booked the car into the local Volvo garage. Initially it had a software download, then a new ignition switch, then the car would not start at all, and was towed to the garage, outside warranty. It had the "sludge" cleaned out of the tank and a new fuel pump. Sadly this has not cured the problem, and the car is still very unreliable when starting.
I am about to book the car into the Volvo dealership again (for the sixth time) but really have little confidence that they can fix it.
Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be? Could it perhaps be something to do with the key (as many other things have been looked at). The rain and cold weather don't seem to help but there were also problems in the summer. Once started it always runs very well.

That sounds more like a loose connection in the ignition switch or the starter motor than a fuel feed problem.
Hi all,
Basically I am looking for a 2005-2006 high miler 2.0TDCI Titanium focus, found a lovely one at a car place near Barnsley, It had a 106,000 on the clock but apparently had a FSH, I got down there and it all seemed very nice, looked in the service book to see if it had the 100k timing belt change and its last service was at 87k, I then looked back at previous service stamps and it had only been serviced every 20k (there was one at 57k and 37k etc.)
Now I thought they were 12.5K intervals but the sales guy was saying 'No no, I used to work for Ford, 20k intervals etc.') I left it anyway to have a think because I really liked the car and wanted to cool down before making any offers.
I got home and checked with a local Ford main dealer and they said IT IS 12.5k and this guy was lying?
Basically I have a couple of questions for anyone who can help:
1) The service intervals should be 12.5K ?
2) Should I steer clear of a car that has missed each of these intervals by 7.5k not to mention a dealer who has blatantly lied?
Thanks in advance for any help and sorry about the long post!

Am I missing something?
The thread title is itself misleading, the OP was mislead by the seller, not by the dealer.
Hi all,
Hoping people will still reply to this original message!
I have a problem...i have a 53 Punto 1.2 Active and the bonnet release cable has snapped and pulled right through. I need to open the bonnet as due to the cold weather I need to replace the battery. I've tried taking the bottom grill out and getting my hand up & in to release the catch but no go.
Any suggestions or will it be a trip to Fiat and a new bonnet?
Many Thanks

Are they still legal if they are are they any good.Tonight on my way home was exciting lots of bmw,s stuck on small uphill gradients sliding all over the place getting nowhere most of the front wheel drive cars not doing too bad .But i never saw any cars with snow chains on the tyres I used to see them years ago but not anymore .During this patch of global warming when we are covered in snow and ice is it worth getting some chains for the car
what do you all think

My father, a GP in Yorkshire, used them during the odd severe winter e.g.1963. So did lots of other drivers who had to get around.
Why don't country dwellers carry them in the boot? I remember leaning out of a hotel window in Kitzbuhel watching a Merc stall halfway up a snowy hill. Got snowchains from boot and laid them behind rear wheels, eased back 2ft onto them, did them up, off again up hill in less than 10mins.
Why aren't lorries forced to carry them so they don't block our main roads? It's pretty foolish to send an artic with one driving axle and virtually slick tyres out onto snowy roads.
I've only ever changed a flat tyre once myself and it took me ages (and that was outside my own house on a quiet road). Have never experienced this on a motoraway, or any trip, and wondered what people would recommend. I can imagine it's a terrifyig experience jacking up a car next to three lanes of passing traffic. Would you call your breakdown service or try it yourself? Read more

You loosen the nuts slightly when all four wheels are firmly on the ground. THEN
you jack it up. Undo the nuts - this should be (pretty much) a fingers-only
job; change wheel retighten nuts (pretty much fingers-only) then lower car. THEN you tighten the
wheels.
Spot on.
a) You have already checked regularly that the wheels aren't corroded to the hubs
b) Leave the brace hanging on a wheel nut while you lower the jack, so that you don't forget to tighten the nuts in your haste to get going again.
hi my heater on my 2.0 dti zafira takes ages to get warm and when it finaly gets something like working its not that warm is this normal cheers Read more
None of the Zafira-B's or Astra-H's have temperature gauges. Pleased to say that Vx have fitted temperature gauges to the new Astra-I range.
Gauge is missing to stop us owners fretting about whether 80 degrees or 90 degrees on the guage is too cold!!
i got into the car this morning, turned the key. car wouldnt start. when i turn the key all im getting is like a continous clicking noise. is it possible that the starter motor could have frozen in this terrible weather we have got. i dont want to try to srtart it just incase the battery dies out on me. ive tried it a few times but like i said all im getting when i turn the ignition on is a clicking noise(continuous). any suggestions are welcome. Hi, Just to say i am shocked that so many people are having the same problem with Vauxhall Vectra suddenly not starting after being parked. Yes the obvious battery and weather conditions are the obvious but from experience it is more serious.
I have an 06 SRI 2.2, and within the first weeks of purchasing it would not start,. Husband being a mechanic knew that it was not battery and not due to cold weather, this was serious the engine would only make a whirring noise like a fan. Luckily under warranty as vauxhall charged £300 just to link it to the computer. It was the Cam Chain and hundreds more onto the bill for timing chain - chain tensioners - gasket - cylinder block gasket - filter element - AND this was only at 20,000 miles (Not Good)...
Dear all i have a 2003 tdci focus which i must admit is a good car, well was until 1 day the car would not start and had it towed to a garage who told me that it needed a new fuel pump as it was knackered.
Having shopped around i can get a 2nd hand one for around the £200 mark but for a recon im looking at £400 onwards.
This is a delphi high pressure pump.
The 2nd hand one's all have different part no's and i was wondering if anybody would know if the other pumps with different no's will fit even if they are of the same year car. Although they may fit will they work or will it all need coding etc?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Post amended. No need to SHOUT!! Read more
P/N of replacement pump will need to be the same.
Don't buy secondhand unless you just want a pump to drive it to the auction. £400 also seems fairly cheap for a recon. remember that even if warranted they will probably not pay out for all the labour involved in replacing a faulty unit (could by many £100's depending on what is wrong).
These cars are not really a diy prospect. They are a lot more complex then your typical petrol injection car and if you don't have the right training tools and equipment you will run into a dead end. If you intend keeping the car then get it to an independent garage, someone who does diesels and knows these cars.
hi i got a ford fiesta deisel 1.4 i had the same problem i cleaned my maff sensor and egr valve and now it sorted it outdrives like a dream
