What is your temperature gauge showing? if its reading low it means the engine temperature is down, this could be caused by a faulty thermostat but if its only happened since the weather turned cold, that could be the cause. Common rail engines are very fuel efficient which means they don't generate much heat if you don't work the engine hard.

You can check on the thermostat by driving it a few miles and feeling the radiator, if its hot but the engine temperature is still low, it's faulty, otherwise, its just down to the cold weather.

In this weather the temperature gauge on SWMBO's Zafira hardly moves off the end sop unless it's sitting in traffic for ages. They all seem to do that. The heater is reasonably good though, so check the top hose to the rad. doesn't get hot until the car has been running for 10 mins. or so, if it starts warming up as soon as the car is running you do have a failed thermostat.

Thermostats are normally a straightforward job, although I don't know your car. Probably won't be necessary though, I think you are just suffering from cold weather and gentle driving.

Here's a thread in a simialr vein from a while ago, here someone actually changed the thermostast and it made stuff all difference:-

My wifes last Zafira was a 2.0dti. The heater would become warm quite quickly, but the temperature gauge would take about 7 miles to rise to 85c, from start up on a cold morning.
It did though, start to be colder than normal from the heater, and the temp gauge would stay low. I changed the thermostat, and it returned to normal.(3 bolts and a pipe) I think Vauxhall had a lot of complaints, or comments about slow warm up on the diesels. This may be why the new 1.9cdti has no temp gauge at all!!

None of the Zafira-B's or Astra-H's have temperature gauges. Pleased to say that Vx have fitted temperature gauges to the new Astra-I range.

Gauge is missing to stop us owners fretting about whether 80 degrees or 90 degrees on the guage is too cold!!
