My daughter's car has a miss-fire which appears worse when cold. The plugs and leads/coil pack have been replaced together with air filter etc. There are no fault codes on the ECU and the tdc sensor has been checked. Removing the Lambda sensor doesn't make any difference so it's probably not that. The compression is good on all cylinders and there doesn't appear to be any induction system leaks. The only thing left is the injectors - anybody have any suggestions? The mileage is 88K with a full service history and the cambelt was changed at 70K. Read more
I bought my Auris in August 2008, in the September the brakes started squeaking, I reported this to the dealer (Vantage Toyota) and they fixed it. They didn't seem surprised by the problem. Recently the same thing has happened again at 11400 miles and I went back to the dealer. At first they said that brakes were only guaranteed for 6000 miles, but agreed to have a look when I explained about the initial problem. They say they have fixed the problem by cleaning, greasing and scoring the discs at no cost. When I said that I hoped that this wasn't going to be a recurring issue, I was told that many manufacturers were having similar issues due to the modern composition of brake parts.
Has anyone else had similar issues? Read more
Toyota have recently figured out that more parts of the rear brakes need fixing.
I can't remember which parts, i think its part of the shims too
Driving over a "defect" in a local road I broke the o/s front roadspring on my Smart Roadster-Coupe. I made a claim which the council have now declined to pay. The reason for their refusal is that they inspected the road within a month before the incident and their inspection concluded that the "defect" that broke my spring was not sufficient to cause damage to vehicles.
Can anyone who might have experienced this or might have knowledge of the legal situation advise me on whether or not to take it further. Read more
The council usually has an inspection regime which is carried out to a national standard as laid out in an expensive book. It is only a code of practice and not law, but if they stick to this it is a good defence.
The local authority has a duty (in law) "to maintain the fabric of the highway." (that's the phrase you need to google uk for), and is what you will need to show that they failed to do, on the balance of probability.
Do you have a copy of the council's inspection reports, and photos of the hole?
Can you show that the hole took some time to develop and that the general condition of the fabric of the highway had not been maintained?
You need to show that the failure was not novel (such as by collapsed culvert), but was due to an insufficient and inadequate inspection and maintenance regime.
I have managed to scratch 3 of the elements on my HRW and it is very noticeable now when there is frost on the outside. I'm sure I once heard of some kind of 'paint on' product that effectively reconnects the broken tracks, but does anyone know what it is called or have any experience of it? Read more
Not copper but silver conductive paint-in stock at Maplins.

Another thought. Is this an estate car?
A common fault is the glass break wire for the rear windows can fail and keep setting the alarm off. Most people this has happened to over on Vectra-c.com just pull the relevant fuse in the boot fuse box to disable the glass break sensor or short the wires together if the car is no longer under warranty.
Hi, my golf 4 TDI has a problem ...... started it the other day and it ran rough, gunned the throttle and it picked up so drove it for about 10 miles. had some intermitent misfire then suddenly died and could not restart. towed it back in gear to see if it would fire nothing ..... had to leave it!! tried today and it fired once but no joy looked at fuel comming out of fuel filter and it seems to be drawing fuel but still no ignition any ideas!! I have a problem with blocked screenwashers on my BMW. The dealer tells me that the fluid had turned to jelly and that this is a problem with Halfords fluid. They say that it will not be covered by warranty and since the reservoir is concealed in the wheel-arch it will be quite a job to clear it. Has anyone else had this problem? Read more
It is actually a common problem with the E90.
All BMW say is "Use our additive"
Like the idea of getting written confirmation of the cause and persuing Halfords for the damages! I wonder if anything would be forthcoming from the dealer????
My peugeot 306 L hdi 2.0L estate,(1999), just cut out on me after it had been running o.k.
The breakdown engineer could not start it, so towed me home.
I took it to a peugeot dealer the diagnostics could not be accessed, they told me a new wiring loom + ecu MIGHT be required (cost £2400.00)
When the engine cut out there was no engine mil light on the dash, yet the engine would turn over but would not start.
Battery went flat, recharged, now engine mil light on dash, but still will not start.
I still have all dash lights, central locking, etc working.
I do not want to throw the car away, for what I think is an electrical problem, so I am now tracing the wiring and checking for earth faults.
Could the engine immobilser cause this problem?
I am also unsure if the ecu is getting a signal from the transponder? is there an easy way to check?
Any assistance would be much appreciated as the car was a very good runner up till this incident, and has only done 60,000 miles with full service history.
Thanks Read more
Cheers i haven't had chance to get on the vehicle yet i will try this and will let you know.
Thanks for the reply
I paid more than a fiver for two 3 volt batteries for the remote entry fob for my car. They had the right code number on them but were a different make from the old ones, and were matt finish rather than shiny.
They don't work. Today my SiL gave me a 3v battery of the same size with a different code number on it, and of yet another make, but shiny. The fob is now rejuvenated and works better than it ever has.

.>> The word "very" which seems to prefix many descriptions at the moment.
Surely not, Old N. - "hugely" is the new "very" IMO

Yep, New coil pack and leads fitted.
