Hi - just bought a Mondeo mk3 Titanium X TDCi and I'm a bit confused. It doesn't seem to have the ESP stuff but I thought it would have traction control, but I can't see anything to indicate it has. Does anyone know how to tell. I must admit, I would have expected it to be standard.
Thanks

but 10 mins into the New Year is too early to start accruing brownie points!!
:)
Correct. But isn't it strange how last year's demerits and failings still count? And the year before that, and before that.... ;-)
I wonder if the new Ka is galvanised or not - wouldn't surprise me if Ford cut corners again. I'm pretty sure the Fiat 500 is definitely galvanised. When I had a blue '09 Ka Mk2 as a courtesy car for a few days, I noticed how rubbish the paint job is compared to my '08 Ka Mk1. On the new Ka, they basically don't paint where you don't see.
Here's an example:

Focus IIs were fitted with a kind of plastic sill guard from a year or so after launch and earlier ones have had the retrofitted, not an issue at all on the ST.

Some Seagates had a problem a year or so back - I know cos I had one! - but generally reliability is good across the board. Occasionally a manufacturing defect can hit a whole batch (i.e. many thousands) of drives and, if not noticed, these are installed in systems. I was involved with a Dell recall some years back for corporates who had bought their laptops - we held "clinics" for their users to have their drives swapped - hundreds of them!
btw I may have mentioned, but it is perceived by some that Dell quality is lower since the manufacturing was moved to Eastern Europe...
Hi all
I have a 2003 Peugeot Partner Combi 2.0 HDi. After having the cambelt changed recently the engine has developed a problem. When the engine is hot it will not start. When it is cold (eg left overnight) it starts and runs normally.
It initially looked like a fuel problem. Priming the fuel system helped to start the engine. The dealer has also re-checked the valve timing.
After a lot of testing the dealer believes the fault lies with the ECU (a Siemens model). It is giving strange readings (when the engine is not running) and it appears that it is not allowing the sensor on the camshaft to communicate with the sensor on the crankshaft(both sensors having been replaced).
The problem only started after the cambelt was changed, but all the cambelt work has been re-checked.
Has anyone come across this before?!?
Many thanks
Dan

Hi,i would be grateful if you can help with your advice with my starting problem,
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi,will someone please help with my starting problem, I have a Peugeot partner van 2.0 hdi on a 2003/03 plate, when damp and raining and and not used say over weekend, tried to start this and will not fire up,this has happened approx 3 times in the course of 2/3 months, but when the weather gets better and warmer the van starts up no problems, this seems to have a mind of it's own and am getting p***ed off cause i tried to fire it up yesterday and today and no luck at all, I have changed the glow plugs 6 months ago and the battery is as new and in great condition,I cannot see the glowplug light coming on the dash, could this problem be related to the relay being faulty, please any help and input would be appreciated.thank you in advance. dave
What are the rules re visibility of yellow lines etc when the road is covered in snow?
Is the onus on drivers to shovel snow away at kerbside to check or go wandering to find the pole with the plate on it? Read more
I have some sympathy when markings are obscured, but re "overhangs", surely it isn't too difficult for people to check that they have parked correctly before they leave the car, or move it a few yards down the road if they can't fit...
We criticise people for rubbish driving, but surely bad parking is just as bad, and its not that difficult... I must admit that if I've not got SWMBO and wheelchair on board I'm quite happy to park further away and walk a few hundred yards rather than try and squeeze into some impossible space...
Its about time that people found out what their legs and feet were primarily designed for... and its not for pushing pedals in a car!! ;-)

Thanks for that. Will dort it out somehow.
this time last year i had a new head gasket done on my punto after the thermostat broke and caused some extreme overheating.
after a 600 pound expense i have noticed this last month or so that the swooshing water noise mentioned by a previous poster is happening in my car on the passenger side too - it always seems to be when the car is first starting and then quickly stops after it gets warm.
This morning (in freezing conditions) I got my car de-iced and running - half way on my way to work I had noticed that no hot air was coming from the heaters - I could still see my own breath - and the temp indicator started to slowly rise above halfway - so i turned back and dropped it off at my nearest garage.
Initially i thought there might just be a problem with the thermostat again - but after reading this post about the water noise - i fear the head gasket may have gone again?
any advice? Read more
in line with the previous threads about swooshing water noise - how serious is this? will it cause any further damage down the line?
My previous problem turned out to be burnt out pistons rings - not head gasket. so another 450 quid later i got the car back.
Please can anyone advise on the following?
current issues
- swooshing water noise on passenger side.
- since returned from garage i now have a faint whirring/high pitched noise coming from front drivers side.
- smell of petrol after a few miles driving.
- as i come to a stop, when the engine revs go down to zero - for the frist couple of 'rounds' it sounds like it gags/chokes as if it is going to stall but doesnt. never happened before - but just since it came back from garage.
oh and also to rub salt in the wound - my door handle fell off unexpectadly yesterday too.
After finding that some filling stations now cynically prevent use of the free water to force you to buy their extortionately priced premix, I went to a supermarket instead and got a 5L drum.
I've just noticed it's only good for down to ?5 °C, so sailing very close to the wind for anti-freeze properties in the current conditions. Read more
>I have halfords blue premixed in my car.
I use Sainsbury's Vodka diluted as necessary.
Almost as cheap as the Halfords stuff and I can always drink it if I get stuck ;-)
Kevin...
mainly when i have just started my journey, but when i have to slow to a full stop the brakes grind, like the pads have wore out. but i have had them recently checked, and that was not the case.
any ideas what could be wrong
thanks for your help

When your driving apply light pressure to the brake pedal when safe to do so for a few seconds at a time this will generate heat and the rear brakes are damp lots of moisture this time of year, you may drive some distance before you apply the brakes in which case they are still damp.
Keep doing this applying light pressure the noise should go away if there in good order.

Well it produces around 300lb/ft torque, more than many much larger petrol engines. However chassis/suspension design is the key and the Mondeo gets its torque through to the road pretty well.
