Hi guys,

I've found that when I have around three quarters of a tank of fuel in my car, there is petrol leaking out of the filler cap and spraying over the rear panel and bumper. As the fuel level goes down, the leakage stops.

A Suzuki garage have looked at it briefly and noted that there seems to be too much pressure when taking the cap off, but the cap itself isn't damaged. They say they have never seen anything like this before and are saying that it could take a few days to diagnose what is causing the problem. I have to drop it off with a full tank and that they would probably use a great deal of it in determining what is wrong.

I still have ten days left of the Suzuki warranty but I am posting on here for advice as I have phoned around a number of garages and none seem to have a clue what it could be, and I am worried that I may have to pay labour charges if they can't find what is causing the problem.

Has anyone come across this before?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bluesky, thanks for the info.

The car went into the dealer today who had it for most of the day and couldn't find anything wrong. They used up a fair amount of petrol so I am satisfied that they inspected it thoroughly. I'm not sure if it does it when the engine is left ticking over, but it certainly does if the engine is off and the car is not moved.

Interesting... well done for PU creating this thread :-)

Circa £24K IIRC, you could buy an original MG TA for that and it wouldn't depreciate as much.

Hi,

I have a 2007 Mazda 5 which I'm looking to sell and downsize to a smaller car, just really want some idea as to the best way of approaching this, should I do a private sale or would it be easier to do a trade in at a dealership and get a smaller car from the same dealer? There is no outstanding finance on the car. I like the simplicity of doing everything all at a dealership but am worried that I may end up being completely ripped off. Thanks for any advice. As opposed to just partly ripped off ?

Interested to know what your definition off being ripped off is ?

Hi
Any warning lights on like the SKIM light? (the little LED that flashes when the alarm is on) is it on all the time with the ignition on? Are there any fault codes? Has an injector leak back test been done on the injectors? if an injector is not holding it's pressure then the rail pressure will be low so the ECU will not start injection till the pressure is up.
Can't believe Chrysler said don't know, did they not contact technical?

The problem for the Evora is that pricewise it is in the same region as the Cayman and the GTR.

Hi,

Im after a bit of advice please as we have just had a turbo replaced on our Golf GT TDIPD, its done 70k miles and in general its been ok.

I dont drive it that often but when i did last week it felt considerably down on power, when it went into the garage they said the turbo had gone, when they test drove it there was a considerable noise front the engine and white smoke from the exhaust. They replaced the turbo for £900 and we got it back.
It is now chucking out a hell of alot of blue smoke and there is oil all over the rear of the car, and i cant get it past 80mph on the m-way.

Is this normal after a turbo failure with the oil? could it be something else? valve dropped?
piston ring? loss of compression?

I havent got a clue dont really i dont want the same guys to have a look so i may have to look for a VAG indie mech than pay main dealer rates.

Any help would be greatly received...Andy

I have a Mk 5 Golf 1.9TD and the turbo "blew up" (I'm not very technical) damaging the exhaust and cat. The car was towed to the nearest VW main dealer and the cost was estimated at £2k less a contribution from VW Customer Services (the car is 3 years 11 months old) of 35%. The car has a full service history and has covered 60k miles. I was advised to claim for the difference against the supplying dealer under the Sale of Goods Act as the turbo should have a "reasonable" life expectancy similar to that of the vehicle. The supplying dealer was given the opportunity of inspecting the vehicle but has said that they don't want to know. Any thoughts on the chance of success in recovering the money using the Small Claims Court procedure?

For the US I've used netflights and carhire3000, have usually had a car from Dollar with no problems. Just back from the US where 21 days car hire cost me £417 for a Dodge Charger, with all insurances, with carhire3000. (I actually kept the car an additional day which was relatively expensive, so be careful of that).

In fact, I already had the same car booked with netflights for nearly £100 more, same deal. I then found the carhire3000 site, which quoted me about £50 below netflights price. I got the quote mailed to me, but when I didn't take it up right away they called me and made the £417 off, so it was worth paying the £50 cancellation with netflights.

When my CRV dti was about a year old it started to drone from the rear offside. The honda dealer who supplied and serviced it said it was tyre noise. Despite a complete tyre change the noise has increased over the last 2 years. It starts to really get loud at about 40 and persists up through to 70+. It it speeds up with wheel speed but never changes tone, regardless of road surface so is not tyres. At lower speeds it sort of reverberates as the wheel speed increases. Honda have varied their diagnosis but the latest is that as I tow (less than 500miles last year), the tyre has become mis-shaped! I am now at the 2nd tyre change and the odd thing is that both times the offside rear has had a tread of 5mil, whilst the others have been about 2. Honda say if I pay £100 they will check it's not wheel alignment!! Read more

It appears that Honda have a few poor dealers, not just nissan.

I would have replaced the original tyres with a different make, and at the same time have a four wheel tracking/alignment done.

My 2nd primera was going through front tyres in under 10k, nissan dealer said they had checked the tracking, but obviously they had not, laser showed 3 degrees out, or was it 5, can't remember exactly. When it comes to tyres dealers are not interested.

You could get a AA inspection, or get the car tested?

I am assuming the rear drive is only on demand?

For tyre wear to be so drastically different something is wrong with the geometry, tracking, or transmission. I would have the bearing checked by another source, and perhaps get the car on a rolling road to try and locate the source of the noise?

Hi Harleyman.

You kindly posted on my "Another vague what car should I buy thread" a week or so ago, suggesting a Hyundai Coupe. I was intrigued, and asked you a few follow up questions, but you probably didn't see the response, so I'll just post it again here - I'd be greatful if you could give me a bit more information:

Harleyman, I am definitely tempted by a V6 Hyundai Coupe. Had a quick look at them on ebay, and for the price, that is indeed a lot of car, plus all the extras you could wish for, and Japanese reliability... Do you have the V6 version? Do you service it yourself? If so, is it hard to do? (I do quite a lot of work on my 944 myself, but it's a bit of a beast to work on) What sort of fuel consumption do you get? Anyway, good suggestion, thanks. (Also went from the Coupe to looking at Toyota Celicas, but that's another story :s)

Many thanks,

Giles

Because he was talking about undies that is.....

Can somebody remind me of the internet site for cheap specs please...

Whatever you think of the car (and I'm a sucker for a mk2 GTE, personally), it is genuinely heartwarming to find a 20 yr old car in this condition, let alone one of the most stolen / thrashed / abused models of its era.

tinyurl.com/nnmhnl

2,080 genuine miles from new, and absolutely pristine. £10k might be pushing it, and I note the usual car salesman bullplop in the ad, but I think this time they might genuinely have a point - where else would you find one like this? Is there another?

Cheers

The dealer recalled the car for a replacement ECU although I hadn't experienced any trouble & the replacement really did tame it.

!!!

What did you say to them id? Was there no chance of getting the original engine chip back? Weren't you absolutely furious? Didn't you sue? Hadn't anyone warned you?

Hell's bells, the damned insolence of it! Ruining a 150mph Eurorepbox! It's beyond belief!
