Hi folks,

I need to get 3 quotes for an old company car that is being disposed of.

I have quotes from two companies, but cannot find any others.

Any recommendations/suggestions?

Caution - Wild birds in transit.

Seen this morning on the back of a trailer advertising mobile falconry demonstrations.

What next - Big cats in transit (lion tamer), or Cobras in transit (snake charmer) ?
Or perhaps "Dead rats in transit". Read more

Oh! Matron!!

Glaikit Wee Scunner {P}

Was stationary in a herd of Fresians a few weeks back. End of Old Coal Pit lane (A5270) near Buxton. The usual gentle jostling and occasionally worried that an elderly cow was going to end up on the bonnet. A few beasts licked the car and now am amazed that it seems to have damaged the paintwork. Washing,T cut and polish have not shifted it.
Watch out!

Edit: For the pedants. Guano seems to refer to sea bird excrement only. I was
being less descriminative.

Hello all,

My fiancee signed the forms for an '08' plate Grande Punto 1.2 Active on Sunday and dropped in a £500 deposit for the car yesterday (the rest is on finance). Yet today, the car is still on the forecourt for the great unwashed (note - tongue in cheek!) to prod, poke and generally crawl all over. To be fair, though, this particular dealer only leaves the boots open and keeps the main car locked until someone asks to see inside. However, can my fiancee insist that the car is taken off the forecourt immediately?

Hope you enjoy your new car! My wife has had her 08 Grande Punto for 8 months now and has just covered 9,000 miles with no problems at all. It was pre-registered with 4 miles on the clock when she took delivery.

Its a great car around town and also surprisingly well at home on long distances for a 1.2 as well as returning good mpg. Over the last 6 months the car is now averaging 48mpg on a daily mixed driving cycle which I think is pretty impressive!

the problems with my car occur within the first ten minutes of the drive.
usually the car will be fine unless either it is windy or the car is going up a hill. then, the car will lose power for a very short time, making the car stutter and lurch. If I don't take my foot off the accelerator the car will stop completely.Sometimes , I get a message which says " insufficient oil pressure". Then after a few seconds, the car can successfully be restarted. This only happens at beginning of journey. On a long journey the problem doesn't reoccur. Read more

I would go for a test drive but can't afford one and it wouldn't sit easily on my mind knowing I was wasting someones time deliberately - even a car salesmans.

It would be interesting as DP says to find out what the real world MPG is like. I would guess that living in a very hilly city and only making short journeys that reasonable savings could be made. Part of the attraction for me is the technology which is the same reason I like hydraulic Citroens. I wish GM hadn't crushed all the EV1s, it would have been interesting to see how they coped over the years without dealer support. Still it would have been better if they'd have had a small ongoing project for them, even if not commercially viable then as a long term real world research project.

The attraction for me with electric cars is the relative mechanical simplicity and lack of toxic extras that we need to keep our current vehicles running, I'm thinking about fluids and oils. Thinking of how much money such products generate it's no wonder there's so little progress away from current technology.

Personally I don't mind that other drivers don't want/like electric vehicles but I'd like a choice if possible.

Steve.

Hello everybody,

My car is:
Ford Fiesta
R Reg
75k miles
1.25 Zetec
Manual transmission

The trouble with it is there?s a vibration/juddering at high speed (60-70 mph), and also when braking from high speed. It doesn?t always happen at that speed but sometimes it does. It can be felt through the steering wheel. The problem isn?t apparent travelling at lower speeds (up to 50 mph), nor in braking from lower speed. Also there is no vibration from the steering during cornering at any speed.

However at low speeds there is a regular noise coming from the driver?s side front wheel that gets faster as speed increases. It?s like a short scraping/clicking. I?ve had the wheel off and seems to me like the brakes are binding a little when I spin the disc. There?s no play in the inner and outer cv joints.

My own diagnosis would be:
1. Wheel balance
2. Warped brake disk

Is there anything else that could be causing this?

Any tips would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Many thanks for the replies, I'll get the wheel off again and check the discs with a dial gauge then. The tyres are newish, but will investigate that too.
