I have a 1.8 Zetec with 113bhp, which is good, but as I live in a very mountainous area it would be good to have a bit more power there. I have read about changing the throttle body, MAF and injectors for those off a 2.0 Mondeo 136bhp which supposedly gives 130bhp. Would this work? or is there another way of doing this? (Apart from ECU remapping and straight through exhaust etc)

Cheers
Ross

In a moutainous area it's practically useless to increase fuel...high areas are poor in oxygen and air pressure, so a bigger turbo or an increase in boost with an override for the wastegate / boost controller might suit you better! increasing the fuel might choke the engone and / or clog your catalyzer due to increased soot!

Thanks deepwith for returning the thread to where it should. Sound common sense.

PS

Welshlad said "lock the thread" earlier I think that now is the time to do that !

Brand new to the site and wonder if some one can help (this has probably been asked 100 times).

Foolishly I didn't select legal cover when taking out my swift cover policy. Low and behold a young lad who'd just passed his test two weeks prior ran into the back of me on a busy road at 1.30 in the afternoon as I waited behind a bus which had parked up to let people on (there was no passing opportunity due to the oncoming traffic).

There was little damage down to my car but I had to get my bumper changed. The claim is now apparently in dispute (apparently admiral haven't responded) and my car insurance has come up for renewal I've just been hit with a £200 excess and my policy has went up by £100.

Can anybody advise how I can go about claiming my money back, is my only option to either wait for a response from admiral or can I take matters into my own hand. I did phone the police but they advised as there was no damage just to leave it to the insurance companies.

Luckily I had NCD cover or it could probably have been worse. I feel aggrieved that I've been penalised for waiting patiently in a queue of traffic.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Be thankful that the guy was insured!

There are plenty of uninsured drivers out there and if one of them had hit you you'd certainly be looking at losing some money. Small claims court etc isn't much help when the guilty party is potless and can't pay you back.

Hi iam the proud owner of a rover 414 ! The car let me down a few months ago and i traced the fault to the black/ violet wire on ecu not triggering the fuel pump relay to run . apparently this is a fairly common fault . I studied the wiring diagram i have and decided to earth out this wire permantly to save getting the ECU repaired. The car runs perfect and i have just done a 500 mile round trip on holiday to weymouth then on to London . I am a little worried though as sometimes i need to power the windows down or open sunroof so when i put ignition on with engine off the fuel pump is running .
I know this vehicle uses a constant return fuel system ( sends fuel up to rail then back to tank ) so i feel i should be safe to run pump with engine off but would like some opions from others on here especially member screwloose who seems clued up on these cars . cheers Darren Read more

I have a TrafficMaster Freeway. This is a device about the size of a GPS which sits on the dashboard, its detects traffic movement on motorways and A roads for up to ten miles ahead and warns of slow moving traffic or traffic jams.

The warning is is the form of an estimated delay time.

I find it extremely useful - at least I did until a few days ago, when it stopped working.

TrafficMaster tell me the device is obsolete and they have no repair facilities.

Does anyone know where I might get it repaired? Read more

I know that Vectra B's came with Traffic Master the one that i was familer with just kind of beeped (IIRC) this was on a S Plate Vectra.

IIRC Didnt some of the Top of the range Vec B's come with a system similer (or even the same one) as smokie had mentioned above?
it was kind of a basic sat nav, but probably way ahead of its time (at least what was avaialable to the public)

Hi, got a chance of buying a 1997 A4 with autobox showing 19k on the clock deemed genuine and currently on the road etc. Given this is an 11 year old vehicle and has obviously had little use over the years, are there any potential problems to look for with this vehicle in particular the automatic box? The front suspension bushes will be a source of concern due to age... they had a weakness then. Not cheap- listen hard for squeaking over bumps...

On Tuesday, whilst driving my transit van in Reigate,as I was going up a hill I came around a corner and noticed cars parked on my side of the road, so I pulled out to over take -when I noticed a bus, who could have stopped to let me through but didn't, proceeding in my direction -

is it just an unwritten rule that drivers should give way to those those going UPHILL our is that just something I do

As I had pulled out to overtake, I had to reverse to give him space - so I checked my wing mirrors and reversed , into a car who was so close not to be visible and for some reason they didn't beep me nor took any notice of the reversing lights - there was nothing behind him as I could see that far back and he saw fir not to reverse.

Fortunately the only damage was to his front toe bar ring, slightly bent down so no major problems
but who is most culpable

the bus Coming towards me had a clear route and I was having to do
the overtaking and I positioned myself safely to overtake the cars as he had Not
moved off from his bus stop when I positioned myself to start the procedure .

IMHO the bus driver should have seen the oncoming vehicle as part of the checks before moving out, and thus waited until the road ahead was clear.

When I start off, I check behind for overtaking vehicles, forwards for oncoming vehicles, possibly on my side of the road, and a general check for pedestrians, cycles, etc....
I would then indicate to show Ill be moving off, and then, when and only when I was happy it was safe to move off, I would do so.

This was, I thought the correct procedure... least ways it was when I learnt to drive......

Hello,

My 2001 Rio has now started to stall in the morning when I try to pull out of my drive. After I start it for the second time, it revs up and drive just fine.

I think it may be the IAC and I want to try cleaning it. Does anyone know where the IAC is on a 2001 Rio?

Hi,
I'm hoping another Jazz owner can confirm this is normal.

When we put the Aircon on the, the engine fan comes on. Not just the Aircon fan, but both fans which makes it quite noisy.

Is this normal? I have no idea.... but would love to know.

Thanks in advance

Most Jap cars are a bit behind the times when it comes to cooling fans;they are either on or off ,so they do tend to be a little noisy when car is stationary. Most other car makers use variable speed cooling fan/s so they only run as demand requires to reduce load on engine and electrics.hth
